Description: The Summer Internship Opportunity
This is a welcoming, practical learning opportunity for an undergraduate in their penultimate year of study or a recent graduate who wants to understand how finance and investment can support better housing outcomes.
Over three months commencing on 7 December 2026, the Summer Intern will gain practical exposure to the Investment and Transaction Management functions and their role in delivering a major Australian Government social infrastructure program that provides grants and long-term housing finance to community housing providers and charities.
The Intern will contribute to research, analysis, document preparation and portfolio support activities appropriate to their experience and learning objectives. Through this work, they will build practical understanding of transaction assessment and investment delivery by learning from experienced team members who lead transactions, drive credit decisions and manage investment outcomes.
Role Purpose The Intern will support the Investment and Transaction Management teams across selected stages of the transaction lifecycle, from early assessment and due diligence through to financial close and in-life monitoring. The Intern will contribute research, analysis, document preparation, data management and administrative support while building an understanding of property and infrastructure lending, grants and long-term housing finance.
Responsibilities will span
- Investment and Transaction Support - gain hands-on experience supporting investment and transaction processes, including research, financial analysis, due diligence and transaction administration.
- Transaction Management and Portfolio Support - contribute to the ongoing management of housing investments by supporting project reporting, portfolio monitoring, transaction activities and performance reporting.
- Team Contribution and Development - develop your professional skills through practical experience, ongoing feedback and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, while supporting a culture of strong governance, integrity and continuous learning.

- Responsible uses of artificial intelligence for research, analysis and productivity within information security, privacy and governance requirements.

We’re looking for curiosity, sound foundational skills, a willingness to learn and an interest in using finance to deliver positive social outcomes.
- Currently undertaking the penultimate year of an undergraduate degree or recently graduated.
- A foundational understanding of, or demonstrated interest in, property or infrastructure lending and how projects may be funded.
- Strong numerical reasoning and attention to detail.
- Explicit written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to organise work, meet agreed deadlines and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to work respectfully and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Competence with Microsoft 365 products, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Willingness to learn, ask questions and respond constructively to feedback.
Applicants may bring knowledge from one or more of the following areas:
- Finance, accounting or economics
- Project finance or real estate finance
- Property, development, asset management or valuations
- Property or Finance Law
- Engineering or construction
- Data analysis, digital tools or related disciplines
Applicants should have some grounding in at least one relevant area, such as financial modelling,
property or project analysis, lending, valuation, legal documentation or regulated environments. This does not need to come from prior employment and may have been developed through university study, case competitions, internships, part-time work, volunteering or personal projects.
AI and Digital Capability An interest in artificial intelligence and its responsible application is highly valued. This might include using AI to support research, summarise information, analyse data, automate routine tasks, improve written work, create efficiencies or optimise simple processes. Applicants don’t need to be AI specialists; however, demonstrated ability to use AI responsibly to improve efficiency, while checking outputs, protecting confidential information and applying judgement before relying on AI-assisted content, will be viewed favourably.
The Summer Intern will receive:
- A structured induction and introduction to Housing Australia’s purpose, programs, stakeholders and operating environment.
- A nominated supervisor, supported by a buddy or mentor to provide practical guidance and day-to-day support.
- Learning opportunities through presentations, discussions and exposure to business areas that support investment delivery.
- Clearly scoped tasks with appropriate context, templates, guidance and review.
- Exposure, where appropriate, to key governance and decision-making forums, such as investment committees and senior stakeholder discussions.
- Regular feedback and opportunities to discuss learning goals.
- Broader exposure to different stages of the investment and transaction management lifecycle.
You’ll gain practical experience at the intersection of finance, property, infrastructure and public purpose. You’ll learn from multidisciplinary professionals, contribute to meaningful work and see how grants and long-term housing finance can help community housing providers and charities deliver more social and affordable housing.
