The opportunity The Machine Learning Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining reliable machine-learning components that support IMDEX’s Digital Orebody Knowledge (OBK) solutions.

Working under the guidance of Senior Machine Learning Engineers and the AI Lead, this role transforms data-science prototypes into well-structured, tested, and maintainable ML pipelines and services.

The Machine Learning Engineer collaborates closely with Geo-Data Scientists, Software Engineers, and Product Managers to support feature development, improve model performance, and contribute to IMDEX’s internal ML delivery platform (Nexus).

This position focuses on strong execution, code quality, and continuous learning, contributing to the growing maturity of IMDEX’s ML engineering capability.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop, test and deploy reliable machine learning features, models and supporting data pipelines.
- Write clean, maintainable, documented and well-tested Python code in line with IMDEX engineering standards.
- Contribute to IMDEX’s Nexus ML platform, including reusable tools, templates and CI/CD integration.
- Collaborate with Geo-Data Scientists,



Product Managers and Software Engineers across discovery, development and release.
- Conduct experiments, benchmarking, model evaluation and error analysis using robust validation practices.
- Identify opportunities to improve model performance, delivery efficiency, maintainability and technical quality.
- Contribute to feasibility assessments, technical scoping, estimation, documentation and demonstrations.
- Communicate progress, risks, blockers and dependencies clearly to technical and project stakeholders.
- Take ownership of commitments, work collaboratively, seek feedback and constructively address issues.

To be successful

- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Python with demonstrated experience writing production-grade code.
- Exposure to ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, and pandas.
- Understanding of ML lifecycle management, validation, and performance monitoring.
- Experience working in cloud or containerised environments (e.g., Docker, CI/CD pipelines).
- Strong collaboration and communication skills within multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with MLOps tooling (model registry, automated evaluation, drift monitoring).




- Understanding of geoscience or spatial data.
- Experience contributing to documentation, playbooks, or internal enablement materials.
