Material Science Expert (AI Training)

About The Role

What if your deep knowledge of semiconductor materials or molecular modeling could directly shape how AI reasons through the most complex problems in materials science? We're looking for Materials Science experts — Masters and PhD-level — to help train and evaluate cutting-edge AI models, ensuring they think with the precision, depth, and rigor that real science demands.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for researchers and domain specialists who want to put their expertise to work in a current and impactful way. No prior AI experience required — full training support is provided.

- Organization: Alignerr
- Type: Hourly Contract
- Location: Remote
- Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

- Develop, solve, and critically review advanced materials science problems with real-world relevance
- Apply deep expertise in semiconductor materials, molecular modeling, or related specializations to design complex, high-quality problem statements
- Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and fellow domain experts to strengthen AI model reasoning
- Evaluate AI-generated scientific content for accuracy, rigor, and conceptual soundness
- Ensure clarity, depth, and scientific integrity across all deliverables
- Complete task-based assignments independently on your own schedule

Who You Are

- Master's or PhD in Materials Science or a closely related field
- Strong expertise in semiconductor materials, molecular modeling, or adjacent research areas
- Comfortable coding in Python or MATLAB for research or computational work
- Naturally detail-oriented with a rigorous, systematic approach to scientific problems
- Clear and precise written communicator — you can explain complex ideas with accuracy and depth
- Currently based in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, or New Zealand

Nice to Have

- Experience with data annotation, data quality assessment, or AI evaluation workflows
- Background in computational materials science, nanomaterials, or quantum materials
- Prior involvement in interdisciplinary research or industry-applied materials work
- Familiarity with AI tools or scientific evaluation platforms

Why Join Us

- Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs and AI teams
- Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
- Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, task-based scientific work
- Make a direct, tangible impact on how AI understands and reasons through materials science
- Contribute to technology that could accelerate scientific discovery at global scale
- Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
