Next Practice Newstead is looking for an experienced Senior Medical Receptionist / Patient Advocate to join our growing team.

We are a modern, boutique general practice in Fortitude Valley with a strong focus on personalised care, excellent patient experience and high quality healthcare.

This role would suit someone who is confident working in a busy general practice environment, enjoys supporting both patients and clinicians, and understands the importance of delivering warm, professional and efficient service.

About the role

As a Patient Advocate, you will be an important part of the patient journey and the day to day operation of the practice.

Your responsibilities will include

- Welcoming patients and providing a skilled and friendly experience
- Managing patient bookings, enquiries, recalls and appointment changes
- Answering phone calls and responding to patient enquiries
- Processing Medicare claims, private billing and payments
- Supporting doctors with appointment management and administrative requests
- Managing correspondence, referrals, results and incoming documentation
- Maintaining accurate patient records
- Assisting with recalls, reminders and follow up processes
- Supporting the smooth operation of reception and the wider practice
- Working closely with the Practice Manager, doctors and clinical team
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy at all times

Essential experience To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
- At least one year of experience working in a GP or general practice setting
- Strong working experience using Best Practice clinical software
- Good understanding of general practice reception and administrative workflows




- Experience with Medicare billing and private billing
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Confidence managing competing priorities in a busy environment
- A professional, reliable and patient focused approach

- HotDoc
- Medicare Online and PRODA
- Private billing practices
- Recalls and reminders
- Medical correspondence and referrals
- Supporting multiple doctors and appointment books

You will be someone who can work independently when needed, support your colleagues, communicate confidently and contribute positively to the culture of the practice.

Most importantly, you understand that medical reception is more than answering phones and booking appointments. You are often the first and last person a patient interacts with, and the experience you create matters.
