POSITION DETAILS
- Part time, Permanent Position
- Classification:Registered Nurse Level 2 $104,826 - $110,122 per annum + Superannuation OR
- Classification: Health Professional Level 2 $99,432 - $111,229 per annum + Superannuation

ABOUT YOUR NEW ROLE The Mental Health Clinician (MHC) provides high quality consumer care as part of a multidisciplinary team. The role delivers person centred services to consumers with a range of mental health needs, supporting wellbeing, safety and positive health outcomes across community and/or clinical settings.
Practising autonomously within their professional scope, the MHC undertakes assessment, care planning, implementation, evaluation, and coordination for consumer care. The role integrates therapeutic engagement and health education, while promoting trauma informed, and culturally protected practice. The MHC contributes to service quality, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives, and may provide clinical guidance and oversight where relevant to the program.
MHC provides clinical assessment and suicide risk management within an outreach service model. The role is primarily focused on initial assessments conducted jointly with a nonclinical key worker in community setting. MHC is responsible for assessing mental health needs, delivering a collaborative safety planning, identifying and managing suicide risk, working in partnership with consumers to co-create a shared safety narrative that reflects consumer's experiences, strengths, and agreed strategies to maintain safety.
MHC may also provide additional follow up visits where clinically indicated, while maintaining a consultative and support role to nonclinical staff.
MHC assists non-clinical staff with ongoing assessing and managing suicide risk and any emotional distress and provide clinical guidance and serves as a key point of escalation for clinical concerns.
MHC arranges outboundreferrals and warm handover of consumers should they require escalation of support into clinical services during their engagement with Aftercare service.
The MHC also acts as a clinical resource for the team and may be consulted by staff regarding clinical concerns, intake processes, and referral suitability, providing guidance to support safe and appropriate care planning.
The MHC is responsible for reviewing and endorsing case closures, ensuring that all clinical, risk management, and organisational procedures have been completed in accordance with service requirements.
Clinicians may be required to travel across Joondalup, Burswood and Rockingham based on service needs, particularly for initial consumer appointments.
The role requires flexibility to travel as needed to support service delivery.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE
- Formal tertiary qualifications in Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or related
- Current full registration as a Psychologist, Occupational Therapist or Registered Nurse with current annual practicing certificate from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA), OR
- Current full registration as a Social Worker with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
- It is a responsibility of the incumbent to maintain all registration/membership requirements with the appropriate governing body and continuing professional development.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries, demonstrate empathy and build trust.
- Strong emotional resilience including the ability to sit with discomfort, distress and people in crisis.
- Ability to work autonomously, manage competing demands and exercise sound judgement.
- Experience in working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team with the ability to inspire and facilitate team commitment and cooperation.
- Ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of a diverse range of people and identify changing needs within a group.
- Knowledge of trauma informed care.
- Strong computer literacy and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience in mental health practice.
- A valid Working with Children Check.
- Hold a current and valid driver's licence.
- Australian Working rights
- National Criminal History Check (police check) - disclosable outcomes considered
Desirable
- Clinical experience in an acute, sub-acute or other setting in which crisis care is a core component of service delivery.
