Metallurgical Technician – Fremantle Metallurgy

About the Position
Fremantle Metallurgy is seeking a motivated Metallurgical Technician (Met Tech) to join our laboratory team in Perth.
We are a specialist metallurgical testing laboratory providing mineral processing and testwork services to clients across the mining industry. Our work covers a range of commodities and processes, offering an prospect to gain practical experience in different areas of metallurgy.
We are also currently establishing a pilot-scale crushing and beneficiation circuit and are looking for someone who can assist with its setup, commissioning and ongoing operation. This presents an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with larger-scale mineral processing equipment alongside our existing laboratory testwork.
This position is suited to someone with a strong work ethic, a hands-on approach and a willingness to learn. Previous laboratory or mineral processing experience is advantageous, but we are equally interested in candidates who demonstrate initiative, mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
You will work alongside experienced metallurgists and technicians, assisting with laboratory and pilot-scale testwork while contributing to projects for clients across the resources sector.
Your Key Responsibilities
As a Metallurgical Technician, your day-to-day duties will include:
- Conducting metallurgical testwork, including thickening, filtration, flotation, gravity separation and other mineral processing activities.
- Preparing samples for testing, including crushing, grinding, screening and sample splitting.
- Assisting with the installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of our new pilot-scale crushing and beneficiation circuit.
- Supporting pilot plant testwork, including material handling, equipment operation, process monitoring and sample collection.
- Setting up,
operating and maintaining laboratory equipment.
- Preparing reagents and solutions for metallurgical testing.
- Collecting, recording and reporting experimental data accurately.
- Monitoring test conditions and assisting with troubleshooting laboratory and pilot plant equipment.
- Performing routine laboratory housekeeping and equipment maintenance.
- Handling and disposing of laboratory chemicals and samples safely.
- Following established testing procedures, safety requirements and quality standards.
- Working closely with metallurgists and other laboratory personnel to complete projects within required timeframes.

- A current driver's licence.
Desirable (but Not Essential)
- Previous experience in a metallurgical, mineral processing or analytical laboratory.
- A Certificate III or IV in Laboratory Techniques, or a qualification in metallurgy, chemistry or a related discipline.
- Experience in mineral sample preparation and laboratory testing.
- Familiarity with thickening, filtration, flotation or other mineral processing techniques.
- Experience operating or maintaining crushing, screening or mineral processing equipment.
- Experience with pilot plant operations, equipment installation or commissioning.
- Previous experience working in the mining or resources industry.
