The Role The Magnetic Rope Testing (MRT) Inspector will perform testing of steel wire ropes, lifting and rigging equipment, inspections, and hands-on wire rope installation and replacement projects on client sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out magnetic rope testing (MRT) on steel wire ropes in all applications, including cranes, winches, hoists, mooring, and mine shaft ropes
- Set up, calibrate and maintain MRT equipment and sensor heads
- Analyse MRT traces to find loss of metallic area (LMA), broken wires, and local faults (LF)
- Do visual inspections and diameter checks alongside MRT
- Write clear inspection reports with findings, discard or retest recommendations, and next inspection dates
- Support annual lifting and rigging equipment inspection audits
- Help with rope removal, installation, and maintenance work on site when needed
- Keep inspection records and asset data up to date in our inspection software
- Follow site safety rules, permits, and WRS procedures at all times
Requirements
- MRT EXPERIENCE IS mandatory
- 5 years' experience in Magnetic Rope Testing and wire rope inspection
- Good working knowledge of relevant Australian Standards and industry practice for wire rope inspection and discard.
- Able to read MRT traces and turn them into plain-English recommendations
- Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces and in offshore or remote settings.
- Current driver licence and willing to travel
- HIGH RISK WORK LICENCE / DOGGING / RIGGING TICKET – will be beneficial.
- Must have WHITE CARD

- Experience in mining, offshore or marine rope applications
- Rigging or lifting equipment inspection experience
- Other NDT qualifications
