Farmer's Bakehouse is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Pastry Cook / Bakery Assistant to join our talented team in Dubbo, NSW. This is a full-time position based at our bakery location, where you will play a key role in producing high-quality baked goods and pastries for our valued customers. You will work alongside experienced bakers and pastry chefs, contributing to the daily operations of our busy bakery whilst maintaining our commitment to quality and excellence.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and bake a variety of pastries, cakes, breads and other baked goods according to established recipes and quality standards.
- Hands-on experience with wild yeast starters, long fermentation, and artisan sourdough shaping is highly valued and essential to our core daily offering.
- Assist with mixing, kneading and shaping dough for different products
- Monitor baking times and temperatures to ensure products are cooked to perfection
- Decorate pastries and cakes with icing, fillings and other toppings as required
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the bakery, including equipment and work surfaces
- Stock shelves and display cases with finished baked goods
- Support the wider bakery team with stock rotation and inventory management
- Operate bakery equipment safely and responsibly, following all manufacturer guidelines
- Assist with packing and labelling products for retail sale
- Respond to customer enquiries regarding baked goods and ingredients
What we're looking for
- A recognised qualification in baking, pastry work or culinary arts, or equivalent hands-on experience in a bakery environment
- Proficiency in operating standard bakery equipment including mixers, ovens and proving cabinets
- Solid understanding of baking techniques, ingredients and food safety practices
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high quality and consistency in all baked goods
- Ability to work early mornings and flexible hours as required by bakery operations
- Excellent physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods whilst working in a warm environment
- Reliability and punctuality with a strong work ethic
- Good communication and teamwork skills, with a willingness to support colleagues
