Are you passionate about supporting community members on their healing journeys through connection, harm reduction, and culturally safe care? Squamish Nation is seeking a Peer Worker to join the Yúustway Health and Wellness Department. In this impactful role, you will use your lived or living experience with substance use or mental health to provide peer-based support, education, outreach, and connection for Squamish Nation Members. Working as part of an interdisciplinary health and wellness team, you will help create a safe, supportive, respectful, and empowering setting while meeting community members where they are at in their healing journeys.

What You’ll Do

- Build trusted relationships with Nation Members through regular community-based outreach, engagement, and peer support.
- Share harm reduction information, educational resources, and supplies with community members and support awareness of available health and wellness programs and services.
- Connect and refer Nation Members to harm reduction workshops, training, Yúustway Elder Advisors, cultural supports, and other available services.
- Support the coordination and facilitation of community-based harm reduction workshops and training.
- Engage with peers to understand their needs and perspectives on harm reduction services, programming, and education, and share feedback to help inform program development.
- Collaborate with Nation Members, families and friends when appropriate, Elder Advisors, Community Health and Wellness team members, and community partners to support Members on their healing journeys.
- Help plan and support community events, groups, activities, programs, and projects.
- Maintain relationships with partner Nations, agencies, and health and wellness service providers.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records, documentation,



and reporting while communicating service gaps, barriers, challenges, and program needs to the supervisor.
- Contribute to the Community Health and Wellness team and support the ongoing development and effectiveness of the Peer Worker role.

What We’re Looking For

- Lived or living experience with substance use or mental health and a willingness to draw upon those experiences to support others.
- 2 to 3 years of directly related experience supporting adults in a harm reduction capacity.
- Experience working within a harm reduction model of care and alongside a multidisciplinary team of health-care professionals.
- Strong interpersonal, listening, communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills, with a genuine desire to help and support others.
- An understanding and application of Indigenous Cultural Safety, or a willingness to complete training within an agreed-upon timeframe.
- Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to the needs of peers and consumers while maintaining clear boundaries, confidentiality, patience, integrity, and composure.
- Reliable, resourceful, team-oriented, and comfortable engaging regularly with community members and staff.
- Beginner to intermediate proficiency with the Internet and Microsoft Office, including Word and Outlook.
- Experience working within a First Nations community is preferred, and knowledge of community-based health and wellness programs is an asset.
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle.




- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required and to work primarily in the Squamish Valley, with occasional work on the North Shore.
- Knowledge and understanding of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw history, culture, customs, lands, and People.

Salary: $53,788 - $67,235
