Flinders + Co is an Australian owner-operated business supplying some of the world’s best meat to leading restaurants, butchers and food businesses across Melbourne and beyond.
We’re a team of around 60 people across production, warehousing, transport, sales, finance and administration. We’re growing, and we’re looking for a capable, organised People & Office Coordinator to help keep the people and administrative side of the business running properly.
This is a practical, hands-on role. You’ll be the person making sure contracts are issued, new starters are properly onboarded, personnel records are up to date, recruitment processes keep moving, office administration gets done and managers have the support they need.
It’s a good opportunity for someone who has built a solid foundation in HR or people administration and wants a broader role with plenty of responsibility and room to grow.
The role
You’ll report to our General Manager and work closely with managers across the business.
A large part of the role is about organisation, follow-through and making things happen. We’re a fast-moving business, so we need someone who is comfortable getting involved, keeping track of the detail and making sure important people processes don’t fall through the cracks.
Your week might include
- preparing employment contracts and employee documentation
- coordinating recruitment, interviews and reference checks
- organising onboarding and inductions for new starters
- maintaining personnel files and HR records
- keeping leave, training and employee documentation up to date
- supporting managers with routine people and performance administration
- coordinating probation reviews and other recurring HR processes
- assisting with payroll and employee information changes
- helping maintain HR policies, templates and procedures
- organising training, meetings and staff activities
- coordinating office supplies, services and general office administration
- assisting with internal communications and company initiatives
- working with our QA/WHS team where people administration overlaps with compliance and safety
- helping improve the systems and processes we use to manage our team
You won’t be expected to know everything from day one. For more complex employment relations or legal matters, you’ll have support from senior management and external advisers.
What we’re looking for
You’ll probably have 1–3 years’ experience in HR, People & Culture, recruitment, office management or a similar coordination role.
More important than having done every part of the job before is that you are:
- highly organised and good at keeping track of multiple things at once
- reliable with strong follow-through
- confident dealing with people at all levels of a business
- comfortable working with both office-based and blue-collar teams
- willing to ask questions and learn
- practical and able to solve everyday problems
- strong with administration and attention to detail
- comfortable using systems, spreadsheets and Microsoft 365
- able to handle confidential information appropriately
- friendly and approachable without being afraid to hold people accountable to a process
Some HR knowledge or experience with employment contracts, awards, recruitment or employee records would be highly regarded. Experience in manufacturing, food, logistics, warehousing or another operational environment would also be practical, but isn’t essential.
Where the role can go
We see this as more than an administration job.
Initially, the priority is to create strong, reliable support around our existing people and office processes. As you learn the business and develop your capability, there will be scope to take ownership of more areas across People & Culture, systems and business processes.
For someone capable and ambitious, there is a genuine opportunity to build a long-term career with us as Flinders + Co continues to grow.
Why Flinders + Co
- Australian-owned and operated business
- growing company where you can see the impact of your work
- broad role with genuine responsibility
- direct access to senior management
- opportunity to learn across HR, operations and business improvement
- supportive, down-to-earth team
- Port Melbourne location with on-site parking
- staff discounts on premium meat
Our team values are simple: Respect, 10/10 and One Team. We want people who care about doing a good job, support the people around them and look for better ways of doing things.
If that sounds like you, apply with your CV and tell us a little about why the role interests you. Successfully shortlisted applicants can expect to be contacted from the week commencing 19th October for further discussions.
