Part time 0.6 FTE - 22.5 hours per week across agreed days - School hours available The opportunity The Indigenous Desert Alliance is looking for a capable and approachable People and Culture Officer to provide practical human resources support across the organisation. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys keeping people processes organised, supporting managers and staff, and helping create a positive and consistent employee experience.

Working as part of the Corporate Services team on a two year fixed term contract, you will support recruitment, onboarding, employment administration, performance and development processes, employee records, staff engagement and people-related reporting. You will also assist with policy and process improvements and help ensure routine HR matters are handled accurately, respectfully and on time.

About IDA The Indigenous Desert Alliance (IDA) is an Indigenous-led, member-based organisation. Our membership is made up of Indigenous Land Management Organisations from the desert (ILMOs). We work with over 70 ranger groups and play a vital role strengthening desert ranger programs and keeping the desert connected.

Directed by Traditional Owners, ILMOs and their ranger teams undertake a wide range of cultural, environmental, and natural resource management activities. These activities include:

- cultural knowledge transfer
- cultural site and heritage management
- fire management
- feral animal and weed control
- threatened species recovery projects
- fee for service economic activities

The IDA works closely with ILMOs to ensure that Indigenous rangers can collaboratively manage the Australian desert and realise their aspirations for community, culture, and Country. We do so by facilitating connections between ILMOs and stakeholders, by providing operational, capacity building and project management support, and through advocacy.

What you will do





- Coordinate recruitment activities, including job advertising, candidate communication, interviews, reference checks and pre-employment requirements.

- Prepare employment documentation and support onboarding, induction, contract changes and offboarding.

- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records, HR system data, registers and compliance information.

- Provide timely first-level guidance to staff and managers on routine people matters, policies and processes, escalating complex issues when required.

- Coordinate probation, performance review, learning and development and staff engagement activities.

- Assist with HR reporting, workforce information, policy reviews and continuous improvement projects.

- Contribute to a culturally safe, inclusive and respectful workplace across IDA's geographically dispersed team

About you

You will bring practical HR experience, sound judgement and a service-focused approach. You are comfortable working with confidential information, can manage competing priorities and communicate clearly with people at all levels.

- At least three years' experience in a people and culture, human resources or comparable generalist role.

- Demonstrated experience coordinating recruitment, onboarding, employment documentation and employee lifecycle administration.

- Working knowledge of Australian employment legislation and contemporary HR practices, with the ability to recognise when specialist advice is required.

- Sound judgement, initiative and organisational skills,



including the ability to manage competing priorities and follow through on deadlines while working part time.

- Strong communication, organisation and attention to detail, with confidence using HR and Microsoft 365 systems and handling confidential information.

- The ability to build respectful working relationships and a commitment to working effectively in an Indigenous-led organisation.
