Policy and Communications Officer

Full time - Fixed term until 30 April 2027 | Royal Park, SA About Us The Motor Trade Association SA/NT (MTA) is the peak body representing the automotive retail, service and repair industry in South Australia and the Northern Territory. Our 1,300 members span publicly listed vehicle dealerships, through to independent mechanical repair workshops, service stations and automotive dismantlers. Our registered training organisation (RTO) and group training organisation (GTO), MTA Training and Employment, is a trusted leader training more than 1,100 apprentices and directly employing more than 450.

About the Role

The Policy and Communications Officer plays an important role in strengthening the MTA's advocacy, communications and strategic influence across government, the automotive industry and the general public. Reporting to the General Manager Media, Marketing and Policy, you will support the development of submissions and policy positions, prepare high quality research and written analysis, engage members on key industry issues, develop corporate communications, and provide program and funding support aligned to organisational priorities. You will work closely with government departments, MTA members, internal teams, and industry stakeholders to ensure the MTA continues to represent and promote the needs, opportunities and challenges of the automotive industry effectively and professionally.

What You Will Bring

Industry Advocacy and Support

- Help deliver MTA advocacy and policy priorities.
- Research and analyse legislation,



policy issues and industry trends.
- Prepare clear and professional submissions, reports and policy documents.
- Engage with MTA members to understand issues and shape policy positions.
- Represent the MTA in meetings with government departments and industry.

Corporate Communications

- Draft and distribute member communications and electronic direct mail campaigns.
- Support the preparation of the MTA's weekly CEO Update and other stakeholder communications.
- Draft media releases, talking points, speeches and social media content.
- Support MTA media spokespersons through research and development of key messaging.
- Collate and distribute media monitoring and relevant industry updates.

Funding and Program Support

- Identify relevant funding opportunities for the MTA and members.
- Prepare grant applications and support compliance and reporting.
- Work with internal teams to support projects and maximise funding outcomes.

Skills and Experience

- High level written communication skills, including the ability to prepare submissions, reports, policy documents and correspondence.
- Experience developing high quality communications, including media releases, electronic communications, speeches or stakeholder communications.
- Well developed research, analytical and problem solving ability.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, with the ability to engage confidently with members, industry stakeholders and government.




- Ability to manage diverse work demands, meet strict deadlines and work independently.
- Experience preparing successful grants and funding submissions is highly regarded.
- Experience within government, advocacy, public policy, communications or an automotive related field is beneficial.
- Intermediate to advanced computer literacy in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- A current drivers licence.
