Help shape energy and water policy for a fairer South Australia
SACOSS is South Australia's peak body for the community services sector and a leading voice on poverty, inequality and social justice.
We're seeking a Policy Officer to lead research, advocacy and policy development on energy and water issues affecting South Australians experiencing disadvantage.
From energy affordability and consumer protections to water pricing, climate resilience and the impacts of the energy transition, you will work on issues that directly affect the day-to-day lives of South Australians. Working with government, regulators, industry leaders and community organisations, you will help shape policy and advocacy outcomes that improve affordability and consumer protections for vulnerable households.
About the role The Policy Officer works under the direction of the Policy and Advocacy Manager and contributes substantially to research, advocacy, public engagement, sector engagement and stakeholder support. In the water and energy policy areas. The role requires an understanding of public policy, social disadvantage and contemporary energy, water and climate issues affecting South Australians experiencing poverty and disadvantage.
Key responsibilities
- Identify key policy priorities and areas of work in relation to energy and water policy relevant to South Australians experiencing poverty and/or disadvantage
- Develop policy positions, submissions, reports and briefing papers
- Undertake research and analysis on energy, water, climate and cost-of-living issues
- Represent SACOSS in meetings, forums and stakeholder consultations
- Build and maintain productive relationships with sector,
government and industry stakeholders
- Coordinate consultations, workshops and community engagement activities
- Contribute to advocacy campaigns and strategic projects
- Support communications and public engagement activities, including media and stakeholder resources
About you
- Experience in policy, research, advocacy or a related field
- Strong analytical and written communication skills
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills
- The ability to communicate complex issues clearly and persuasively
- A commitment to social justice and equity
- Experience or knowledge in energy, water, climate, consumer advocacy, public policy or regulation will be highly regarded.
- Proven capacity to work collaboratively within a small team environment, with limited resources and ensuring that deadlines are met
- A commitment to the mission and values of SACOSS
