Position Title: Prison Chaplaincy, churches of Christ NSW & ACT
Expressions of Interest requested
Churches of Christ NSW & ACT is exploring an opportunity to expand our chaplaincy presence within Corrective Services NSW, and we are seeking expressions of interest from people who may feel called and equipped to serve as a Prison Chaplain.
We currently have a part-time position opening in the Sydney area, with potential for this to become a full-time position in the future.
Prison chaplaincy is a unique ministry of presence, pastoral care and spiritual support, serving people from a wide variety of backgrounds, cultures, faiths and life experiences. The role provides pastoral and spiritual care to inmates, staff and, where appropriate, families.
We Would Love To Hear From People Who Have
- Appropriate ministry/theological qualifications or recognised standing within Churches of Christ.
- Significant pastoral ministry, chaplaincy, or spiritual-care experience.
- The ability to provide compassionate,
non-judgemental care to people of any faith or none.
- An understanding of trauma, grief, loss, confidentiality, and appropriate pastoral boundaries.
- A willingness to engage in regular pastoral supervision and career development.
- Completion of, or willingness to complete, an approved 400-hour Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) course or equivalent within the required timeframe.
The successful applicant would require endorsement through the Civil Chaplaincies Advisory Committee (CCAC) and accreditation by Corrective Services NSW. At this stage, we are simply seeking Expressions of Interest. We’d love to have an initial conversation with anyone interested in exploring whether prison chaplaincy might be a good fit.
