Provisional Fellow – Vascular Renal Transplant Surgery, Royal North Shore Hospital

The Vascular Renal Transplant Surgery at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) offers junior doctors the opportunity to develop their clinical and surgical skills within a busy tertiary service managing a broad range of complex vascular conditions.

Working alongside experienced Vascular Surgeons, Advanced Trainees, Unaccredited Trainees and multidisciplinary teams, trainees are actively involved in all aspects of patient care, including acute presentations, inpatient management, perioperative care, outpatient clinics and emergency consultations. The role provides exposure to a diverse range of vascular conditions, including peripheral arterial disease, aneurysmal disease, carotid artery disease, diabetic foot complications, venous disorders and vascular trauma.

As a major tertiary referral and trauma centre, RNSH cares for patients requiring both open and endovascular interventions, providing valuable insight into contemporary vascular surgical practice. Trainees gain experience in the assessment and optimisation of surgical patients, management of complex comorbidities, postoperative care and multidisciplinary decision-making.

What you'll be doing The Transplant Fellow will actively participate in all aspects of the kidney transplantation program, gaining advanced surgical experience and contributing to patient care, surgical planning, and multidisciplinary team activities.

This role provides hands-on experience in both elective and urgent transplantation procedures, as well as involvement in transplant-related administrative and educational activities. This is a full-time position, shared between vascular surgery and transplant surgery responsibilities.

Candidates shortlisted for interview will be required to provide original qualifications, registrations, licences, and other mandatory credentials for verification by the selection panel. We encourage all applicants to prepare these documents in advance to support a smooth recruitment process.

1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
2. Completed FRACS or near completion (Vascular, General or Urology)
3. Demonstrated interest in transplantation surgery, with prior exposure to renal transplant procedures desirable
4. Ability to participate in on-call rosters, including weekends and after-hours emergencies
5. Solid organisational and communication skills, particularly in coordinating multidisciplinary meetings
6. Commitment to patient-centered care, teamwork, and professional development
7. Willingness to participate in research and audit activities is desirable

Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases To be employed by NSW Health, applicants must provide evidence of vaccination and comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy Directive (PD2024_015). Compliance with this policy, including any amendments made from time to time, is a mandatory condition of employment.

Applicants will be required to provide acceptable evidence of their vaccination status, immunity, and any other occupational health requirements relevant to the position. Evidence must be submitted and assessed in accordance with NSW Health requirements prior to commencement.

Working with Children Check

This position requires a Working With Children Check (WWCC) clearance issued by Service NSW. A current and valid WWCC is a mandatory requirement for appointment to this role.
