Role Description
We are seeking a Quality Assurance Laboratory Technician to join our Quality team at our Goulburn manufacturing site.
This is a graduate level, on site laboratory position suited to someone with a strong scientific background who is looking to build a career in beverage quality, food manufacturing and laboratory operations.
The role is responsible for completing routine chemical, microbiological and physical testing of beer, cider, RTDs and other beverages to ensure products meet defined quality, food safety and customer specifications.
Working closely with the Quality, Brewing and Packaging teams, the Laboratory Technician will support product release, investigation of out of specification results, sensory evaluation, laboratory compliance and continuous improvement activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine chemical, microbiological and physical analysis of raw materials, in process samples and finished products.
- Prepare samples and perform laboratory testing accurately in accordance with approved methods and specifications.
- Operate, calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.
- Record, review and interpret laboratory results and promptly escalate results that fall outside specification.
- Support investigations, corrective actions and root cause analysis relating to quality or laboratory deviations.
- Participate in product sensory evaluation, including assessment of flavour, aroma and overall product quality.
- Assist with environmental monitoring, microbiological testing and verification activities where required.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, documentation and data integrity.
- Support continuous improvement of laboratory methods, quality procedures and testing efficiency.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe laboratory environment.
- Work collaboratively with Brewing, Packaging, Engineering and other operational teams to support consistent product quality.
- Follow site food safety, quality, safety and environmental requirements, including HACCP and applicable internal standards.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Minimum Master’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Chemistry or another relevant scientific discipline.
- Strong understanding of laboratory practices, sample preparation and analytical testing.
- Ability to accurately record, analyse and interpret laboratory data.
- Robust attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and data integrity.
- Good analytical and problem solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a fast paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety, food safety and product quality.
Desirable
- Previous laboratory experience within food, beverage, brewing, dairy or other FMCG manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of microbiological testing techniques and basic laboratory aseptic practices.
- Experience operating and calibrating laboratory instrumentation.
- Understanding of HACCP, GMP, food safety systems or quality management systems.
- Previous exposure to beer, cider, RTD or beverage testing.
- Experience or interest in sensory evaluation and beverage quality.
