- Conduct physical work outdoors within the cultural and natural resource management on the island of Saibai and other communities with the Torres Straits. This includes cultural site maintenance, traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) recording, cultural awareness activities, management of introduced plants and animals, threatened species management, land and sea patrols.
- Consult, plan and seek advice from Senior Traditional Owners and Registered Native Title Bodies Corporates (RNTBCs) regarding work plan activities.
- Computers are literate to conduct administrational duties such as interpreting work plans, recording attendance and office duties.
- Demonstrate capabilities to conduct maintenance on assets, equipment, and facilities.
- Contribute to the Ranger team, work within a team
- Undertake tasks as directed by the Ranger Project Management.
Essential Requirements:
- Must be a current resident of Saibai Island or demonstrate the independent capacity to relocate and reside on Saibai.
Employment is subject to the following conditions:
- Citizenship – applicants must be an Australian Citizen
- Police check – any recent APS employee must undergo a National Crime Check
- Probation – a probation period will apply to any new APS employee
- Security clearance – successful candidates may be required to obtain and maintain a AGSVA security clearance commensurate with their particular role requirements
- A ‘working with children’ Blue Card, or the ability to obtain a ‘working with children’ Blue Card
Before being appointed to a role, successful applicant must provide evidence confirming are Torres Strait Islander and/or Aboriginal. Acceptable evidence includes:
- a letter signed and executed by the Chairperson of an incorporated Torres Strait Islander or Aboriginal organisation confirming that the applicant is recognised as a Torres Strait Islander or Aboriginal person or
- a confirmation of Torres Strait Islander or Aboriginal descent form executed by a Torres Strait Islander or Aboriginal organisation.

SRA Environmental Management Program are currently seeking a dedicated Ranger to join our team on a temporary 9 month contract with a possibility of an extension.

Saibai Island The Ranger will undertake land, sea and cultural heritage management activities on traditional land and sea country under the supervision and guidance of the Senior Ranger.
TSRA Rangers play a vital role in the environmental and cultural stewardship across the Torres Strait.
Rangers combine traditional knowledge and western science to care of land, sea and culture in line with community and traditional owners.
