About the Opportunity An exciting opportunity is available for a Registered Nurse to join Cessnock Community Health, part of Hunter New England Local Health District. Our team delivers a range of patient-centred community nursing services to individuals and families across the Cessnock region, helping people remain safe, independent and well in their own homes and community.
Based in the beautiful Hunter Valley, Cessnock Community Health supports a diverse rural and semi-rural community. The service provides a varied range of nursing care including simple and complex wound care, IV medication administration, catheter care and management, PICC and Port-a-Cath care, immunisation and patient education.
You’ll work closely with local GPs, allied health professionals and other healthcare providers to deliver coordinated, holistic care.

What You Will Be Doing
Reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager, you’ll provide high-quality nursing care across both clinic and home-based settings, supporting clients with a range of health needs.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Conducting comprehensive nursing assessments and developing care in partnership with clients.
- Providing simple and complex wound assessment and management.
- Providing catheter care and management.
- Administering medications, including IV medications as required.
- Supporting immunisation activities where appropriately qualified.
- Providing education and support to clients and their families to promote independence and self-management.
- Working autonomously while collaborating closely with the multidisciplinary team.
- Communicating effectively with GPs, allied health professionals and other healthcare providers.
- Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation.
- Supporting safe, coordinated and person-centred care across the community.

About You
We’re looking for a Registered Nurse who is clinically confident, compassionate and enjoys the combination of autonomous practice and strong team connection.
You will bring
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
- Strong clinical competence, particularly in wound assessment and management.
- Sound clinical judgement and the ability to make safe decisions in a community setting.
- The ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds.
- A commitment to safe, high-quality and person-centred care.
- Strong organisation and time management skills.
- Reliability, professionalism and strong clinical documentation skills.
- An unrestricted Australian Driver’s Licence.
- Qualification and/or experience in immunisation would be beneficial, but is not essential.
You’ll be supported from day one with a structured orientation, supernumerary shifts and opportunities to shadow experienced team members as you become familiar with community workflows, systems and processes.
Our Clinical Nurse Educator will provide ongoing clinical guidance, competency development and support to ensure you feel confident delivering best-practice community nursing care. You’ll also be part of a friendly and collaborative team that values learning and professional growth.
Ongoing development opportunities include NSW Health mandatory training, online learning modules, in-service education and clinical skills updates relevant to community nursing, supporting your continued growth within your scope of practice.
Additional Information To be eligible for permanent employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport.
