About the role
The Roster Design Officer is responsible for designing, maintaining and optimising planned roster structures that align with client NDIS funding, service delivery requirements, workforce availability and industrial obligations. The role ensures roster designs are financially sustainable, support efficient workforce utilisation and quality service outcomes, NDIS-aligned, compliant with industrial awards and workplace health and safety requirements.
Role Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain master rosters and recurring roster patterns for allocated service clusters.
- Validate, maintain and publish planned rosters within agreed roster publication timeframes, on a rolling or staggered basis.
- Design and update roster structures in line with participant funding, roster-of-care assumptions, service requirements and approved staffing models.
- Ensure roster patterns comply with the applicable industrial award requirements, including ordinary hours, overtime, weekends, active nights, sleepovers, minimum engagements and broken shift considerations, as well as relevant organisational processes
- Identify and recommend roster optimisation opportunities to improve workforce utilisation, reduce avoidable staffing costs and support funding sustainability.
- Monitor roster efficiency, including utilisation, vacant lines, agency and casual usage, overtime patterns and avoidable roster leakage, escalating identified risks and opportunities.
- Support roster consultation and roster change management processes, such as redeployment of employees to other locations within the organisation.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Demonstrated rostering / scheduling / workforce or resource planning experience.
- Knowledge of industrial awards, employment conditions and workforce management practices, with the ability to apply these when developing and maintaining compliant rosters.
- Knowledge and experience operating a rostering, workforce management or time and attendance system, reporting capabilities, management of queues and activity routing/overflow
- Ability to build and maintain trust and confidence of stakeholders through building rapport, consistent performance and delivery of services.
- Robust administrative and communications skills
- Demonstrated customer focused communication skills incorporating the abilities of courtesy, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
- Organisational and time management skills including the ability to prioritise a demanding workload
- Advanced computer literacy e.g. MS Office and Excel.
