Senior Data Engineer

We are seeking an experienced APS6 Data Engineer to join an enterprise Data Services team. This is a senior, hands-on position combining data engineering, SQL development, data modelling and technical leadership.

You will work across enterprise data platforms to design, develop and optimise data pipelines and warehouse solutions, while helping establish solid engineering, review and delivery practices.

Responsibilities:

- Develop, maintain and optimise enterprise data pipelines, ETL processes and analytical solutions.
- Design and support enterprise data warehouse and data integration solutions.
- Develop complex SQL analytical and ETL code for enterprise reporting and analytics.
- Perform SQL optimisation and performance tuning.
- Lead technical implementation from requirements analysis through development, deployment and operational support.
- Interpret and apply data models, technical specifications and solution designs.
- Conduct peer reviews of code, data models and technical designs.
- Establish and maintain development, data modelling, peer-review and release standards.
- Translate business requirements into scalable and maintainable technical solutions and data assets.
- Produce technical documentation, implementation artefacts and data dictionaries.
- Work closely with architects, analysts, developers, testers,



support teams and business stakeholders.
- Support DevOps, version control and software delivery practices.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and mentor/support other team members.
- Contribute to backlog prioritisation, delivery planning and continuous improvement of engineering practices.

Key Skills & Experience

- Minimum 5 years of hands-on MS SQL experience, including complex SQL development, ETL, optimisation, performance tuning and code review.
- 5 years experience developing and supporting enterprise data warehouse and data integration solutions.
- Demonstrated experience with at least one additional data technology such as Teradata, Snowflake, Redshift or Databricks.
- Strong programming capability using SQL and languages such as Python, SAS, R or Java.
- Strong experience with ETL/data pipelines, data modelling and enterprise analytics solutions.

Nice to Have

- Experience with AWS data technologies, particularly S3, AWS Glue or similar cloud-based data platforms.
- Experience with SAS and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with enterprise reporting and analytics platforms.
- Experience with metadata-driven or model-driven development frameworks.
- Experience working in an Agile delivery environment.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science, IT, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or a related discipline.
