About Us

Austral Tree Services, part of Project Green Group (pgg), is one of South Australia’s leading arboriculture companies. We work across residential, commercial and government projects, delivering professional tree and vegetation services throughout Adelaide and surrounding areas.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a reliable, hands-on and mechanically minded person to join our team as a Stump Grinding Operator.

No previous stump grinding experience? No problem. Full training will be provided.

This is a great chance for someone who enjoys operating machinery, working outdoors, solving problems and being trusted to get the job done.

You may come from a background in landscaping, arboriculture, civil construction, agriculture, machinery operation, mechanical work, earthmoving, or general hands-on work — if you have the right attitude and a willingness to learn, we want to hear from you.

What You’ll Be Doing

- Operate specialised stump grinding machinery.
- Travel to residential, commercial and other work sites across Adelaide and surrounding areas.
- Safely remove tree stumps and complete jobs to a high standard.
- Identify and work carefully around underground services.
- Complete jobs independently and manage your daily workload.
- Conduct basic equipment checks and care for machinery and company vehicles.
- Follow company procedures, SWMS/SOPs and safety requirements.
- Represent Austral Tree Services professionally when working with customers and clients.
- Keep equipment, vehicles and work areas clean, organised and well maintained.

What We’re Looking For

We're more interested in your attitude and aptitude than whether you've operated a stump grinder before.

- A current MR licence or higher.
- A mechanically minded, hands-on approach.

- Confidence operating machinery or a strong desire to learn.
- The ability to work independently and take responsibility for your work.
- Good attention to detail and a methodical approach.
- A robust commitment to safety.
- Reliability, punctuality and a positive attitude.
- The ability to communicate professionally with customers and team members.

Previous stump grinding experience is not required — we'll train the right person.

Why Join Us?

- Full training provided — develop a specialised and valuable skill.
- Above-award rates
- Stable, long-term employment with an established South Australian business.
- Work across a variety of locations rather than being stuck in the same place every day.
- Modern, specialised equipment and machinery.
- Supportive team workplace and strong safety culture.
- Opportunity to develop your skills and take on further responsibilities as you progress.

The successful applicant will be required to attend a pre-employment medical, including audiometric testing and drug/alcohol screening.

The Person We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who can be trusted to jump in, learn the equipment, solve problems and get the job done safely.

If you're the kind of person who enjoys working with machinery, doesn't need to be micromanaged and takes pride in doing a job properly, we'd like to hear from you.

A pre-employment medical, including audiometric testing and drug and alcohol screening, will be required as part of our recruitment process.

No stump grinding experience? That's okay.

If you have an MR licence, a good work ethic and a mechanical mindset, we can teach you the rest.

Apply with your resume and tell us a little about yourself and why this opportunity interests you.
