The Role The Department of Defence is engaged in responding to demands of the National Defence Strategy. This requires significant force integration analysis to inform effective employment of capability, and the identification and analysis of capability gaps and future capability options across the Australian Defence Force (ADF). In this role, you will have the opportunity to design, build and run a secure system that supports Defence missions in a highly sensitive environment.

You will have ownership over the end-to-end outcomes from requirements and architecture through to implementation, verification/validation, accreditation and sustainment, while applying Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and GitOps principles.

About our Team The Weapon Systems Performance team leads the analysis of the ADF’s evolving integrated warfighting capability in complex and contested environments. We use methods such as systems analysis, systems engineering, and modelling and simulation, working with subject matter experts from technology as well as operational backgrounds.

Our work supports the ADF to understanding the current weapon and platform capabilities to identify opportunities to evolve and effectively capitalise on technology innovation to deliver a robust, adaptive and potent defence force.

The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

- Develop a system architecture to deliver agreed business outcomes
- Ensure that relevant technical strategies, policies, standard and practices including security are applied correctly
- Lead the build of the designed system across bare-metal, virtualised and/or containerised components
- Undertake activities required to obtain and maintain accreditation of the system.

Security Clearance:

Mandatory Qualifications:

The S&T5;/EL1 Senior Researcher - Operations Analysis position requires:

- academic qualifications in one or more of the following related fields of research; or
- relevant skills and work experience.
