Software Quality Engineer

Permanent opportunity

$120,000 + Super per annum

Clicks IT Recruitment is proud to be partnering with our client to recruit a Software Quality Engineer for their growing engineering team in Brisbane.

This is an opportunity to work on complex industrial software used within mining environments, where reliability, consistency and performance are critical. As the organisation's first dedicated Software Quality Engineer, you'll play a key role in shaping how quality is delivered across the business.

This is a practical, hands-on role that combines both manual and automated testing. You'll work closely with software and mechatronics engineers to formalise testing processes, translate existing documentation into structured test plans, execute comprehensive testing activities, and maintain and expand existing automation frameworks.

We're looking for someone who enjoys working independently, taking ownership and driving quality outcomes. While you'll be the dedicated testing specialist, you'll be supported by a collaborative engineering team and will have the chance to influence how testing practices evolve as the organisation continues to grow.

What you'll be doing

- Develop structured, repeatable test plans from existing documentation and product knowledge

- Define testing criteria to support code merges and software releases

- Conduct thorough manual testing across new features and enhancements

- Validate edge cases, system behaviour, UI functionality and failure scenarios

- Maintain and expand existing Pytest automation suites

- Enhance Playwright end-to-end testing coverage

- Support reliable automated test execution within CI/CD pipelines

- Review test coverage and results to support release readiness

- Investigate, reproduce and document defects with transparent reproduction steps and supporting evidence

- Analyse logs and environmental conditions to assist troubleshooting and root-cause analysis

- Identify opportunities to increase automation across the testing lifecycle

- Contribute to the ongoing refinement of testing processes, frameworks and quality practices

- Act as the primary quality advocate within the engineering team and help drive a culture of continuous improvement

What you need to bring

- Approximately 3-5 years' experience in Software Testing, QA or Quality Engineering

- Strong analytical and sceptical mindset with a natural focus on identifying risks and failure points

- Experience performing both manual and automated testing

- Ability to think beyond the "happy path" and challenge assumptions

- Experience developing test plans and test cases from limited documentation

- Comfortable working autonomously and taking ownership of testing outcomes

- Experience improving or establishing testing processes and quality practices

- Experience with Python and Pytest

- Experience with Playwright, Cypress or similar automation frameworks

- Ability to read, write and debug automated test code

- Understanding of APIs and modern web application architecture

- SQL skills for validating and investigating data within PostgreSQL

- Comfortable working with Linux, containerised environments and command-line tools

- Strong communication, defect investigation and documentation skills

- Collaborative approach to working alongside developers and engineers

Bonus points for

- Experience with IoT, industrial software, robotics, or hardware-integrated systems

- Exposure to mining technology, industrial automation, or operational technology environments

- Familiarity with React and TypeScript applications

- Familiarity with C++

- Experience contributing to the improvement of QA processes and testing frameworks

Why you'll love this role

- Become the organisation's first dedicated Software Quality Engineer and help shape the future of quality practices

- Work on complex industrial software and IoT solutions used within mining operations globally

- Enjoy a high degree of autonomy, ownership and influence

- Expand your automation capability as the testing environment continues to mature

- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team solving real-world challenges

- Hybrid working model with 2 days per week in the Hamilton office

- Professional development support through training, courses and workshops

- 36-hour work week, flexible working arrangements and paid birthday leave

Important to know

- Full working rights required (Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident)

- Remote applicants will not be considered.
