The Role
We are looking for an experienced, passionate and meticulous Sous Chef to join our team. You will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of the kitchen, supporting with various management tasks, and providing leadership and guidance to junior team members. Reporting to the Executive Chef, your key roles and responsibilities will include but will not be limited to;
- Leading and overseeing daily kitchen operations across Breakfast, Lunch, In room Dining, Dinner or Event preparation
- Supporting and developing junior kitchen staff by providing training, guidance, and feedback on culinary techniques and Oakwood’s kitchen standards
- Ensuring all dishes are consistently prepared to the highest quality standards, with attention to detail in terms of presentation, taste, and portion sizes
- Maintaining strict food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety standards
- Assisting with kitchen administration, including rostering, recruitment, stock control, ordering and food cost. In the absence of the Executive Chef, you will take responsibility for these functions
- Collaborating with the Executive Chef on menu development, seasonal offerings, and innovative culinary concepts
- Be adaptable and driven to produce high quality dishes with a diverse skills set with positive knowledge of various cuisines
About You To excel in the role, you should have;
- Minimum one year of previous experience as a Sous Chef or a similar leadership role, within a hotel setting is preferred
- Ability to lead motivate and manage a team of chefs while performing effectively under pressure
- Hold relevant tertiary qualifications, such as Certificate III in Commercial Cookery
- Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene and kitchen compliance requirements
- A proactive attitude, strong organisational skills and a passion for culinary excellence
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including mornings and evening across weekdays, weekends and public holidays, as required by business needs
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to coordinate and collaborate with various departments
