STUDENT MENTOR - FOOTBALL (SOCCER) PROGRAM
We are currently seeking three motivated team-players to join our Football program as Student Mentors in 2027. There are three positions available across Gepps Cross, Ellis Park and Hallet Cove.
Teachers and Mentors in our Football program deliver a designated sports immersion program in collaboration with our sporting partners Adelaide United and Football SA.
You will be joining an exciting, growing and vibrant college that has a genuine focus on its people and the attainment of quality performance. This underpins robust outcomes for young people and the successful applicants' role in this will be exciting, challenging, autonomous and ultimately rewarding.
POSITION OVERVIEW To work collaboratively with staff at a designated venue as a Student Mentor, with a focus on supporting student success, development, engagement and learning. The role works alongside teachers and other venue staff to provide support to students, assist with the management and organisation of students and learning environments, and contribute to a positive and supportive student experience.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
- Plan and deliver the SCSA Student Development Program, including workshops and individual 1:1 meetings, to support students' holistic development, wellbeing, engagement and future success
- Support the development of individual Pathway Preparation Day (PPD) plans for each student and lead students to identify, contact, apply and undertake work placements
- Move around the room during class time and sit alongside students who look like they need support and help to refocus them if needed
- Check with the teacher/s each day if there are any particular students who you should focus on and what they need to work on
- Support students to understand instructions and using ICT as required
- Be aware of student problems/progress/achievements and report these to the teacher/s
- Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students and encourage students to interact with others and to engage in activities to the best of their capabilities
- Run or support engaging and inclusive practical sessions, with a specific focus on football.
- Promote and support industry experience including partnership opportunities for students and organise, deliver and lead Community Impact Days as required with students
- Fulfil the Student Mentor responsibilities of the SCSA Attendance Intervention Processes, including reviewing attendance data, having conversations with students and contacting parents as required
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Capacity to undertake the duties listed above
- Experience in working with and mentoring young people
- Sport and Recreation Industry Experience preferable, but not essential
- Demonstrated capacity to work with and build professional relationships with all stakeholders including young people, parents, and colleagues
- Appreciation of curriculum, assessment and reporting requirements
- Effective presentation and facilitation skills, and ability to use a range of methods to engage and connect with students
- Well-developed verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to build rapport, and interact effectively with a broad range of people at all levels
- Ability to work independently and contribute effectively as a team member to achieve goals
- Strong organisational, planning and time management skills with an ability to prioritise and manage workload, meet deadlines and adapt to changing circumstances
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS, CERTIFICATES & CLEARANCES
- Current First Aid qualification inc. CPR and Anaphylaxis Training (held or willing to obtain)
- Current Driver’s License
- Working with Children Check (WWCC)**
- Current RRHAN-EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect)**
