The Team Leader will provide leadership and supervision of the Safeguards Child and Adolescent Mental Health Response Team (‘Safeguards Team’). The position will provide expert clinical support to the team under the leadership of the Safeguards psychiatrist.

The Safeguards

Team is a new dedicated CAMHS resource designed to provide innovative and best practice care to children and adolescents aged 0-17 years experiencing acute mental health distress. The team is community based and provides rapid, mobile and adaptable care to resolve mental health crisis, including assertive outreach, care coordination and time-limited therapeutic interventions.

The Safeguards

Team operates 7 days/week with extended hours on weekdays, and will respond to young people in their schools, homes and communities and in hospital-based settings, through face to face, phone and telehealth appointments.

The Team

Leader is responsible for operational management of the Safeguards Team. They are responsible for liaising and providing consultation to staff of other mental and general health teams and relevant external agencies.

Leader is responsible for ensuring the Safeguards staff comply with professional and organisational obligations in relation to Policies and Procedures, risk management and notifications in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Shellharbour Hospital is a busy acute care facility which provides emergency services, elective surgical services, general medicine, antenatal and primary family health care, satellite renal dialysis,



and adolescent and adult mental health services on site. It's an accredited healthcare facility with the Australian Council on Health Care Standards (ACHS) and is recognised as providing a high standard of care to the community.

- Applicable vaccination requirements for a Category A role.
- Working With Children Check (WWCC)
- Tertiary qualification in a health discipline (social work, nursing, occupational therapy, senior psychology or clinical psychology) together with current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) for Nurses,



and Health Professional
- Senior Psychologist must have a four year degree in psychology, completed 9 years of service and full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia and for Clinical Psychologists a minimum of postgraduate degree in clinical psychology and Psychology Board of Australia endorsement in the area of clinical psychology and/or significant clinical experience in child and youth mental health.
- Current unrestricted Australian drivers’ license.

This is a temporary leave relief position until 7 February 2027 with the possibility of extension.
