Details: Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) is seeking enthusiastic and experienced technical officers to fill casual and temporary vacancies in the CIT Science department.

Joining a small team, the primary focus of the technical officer role is to provide technical and laboratory support in science classes, and to maintain WHS and compliance in the CIT Science laboratories.

Technical Officers will be required to:

- Prepare for and service laboratory classes in the CIT Science department including Forensic and Public Safety, liaise with teaching and support staff across the department in both face-to-face and online delivery.
- Assist teaching staff with student demonstrations and supervision.
- Maintain and monitor WHS requirements in the laboratory and teaching spaces, safe handling and storage and removal of chemicals, maintenance of equipment including assisting with procurement and general housekeeping.
- Maintain resources and consumables including security and stock control, and compliant chemical holdings.
- Ensure laboratories and general workspaces are consistently cleaned and are maintained in a clean and orderly manner.
- Use CIT digital systems to maintain appropriate records.
- Robust written and verbal communication skills to work with teaching staff and students.




- Sound organisational skills including the ability to maintain tidy work and teaching spaces, maintain compliance with legislative requirements, and prioritising work to meet fluctuating workload and class timing commitments.
- Complete ad hoc tasks as directed by the Head of Department to support teaching and learning activities across the department.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

- Diploma in Science qualification and/or relevant experience appropriate to the duties of the position.
