Banyule City Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Coordinator Urban Forestry to lead an award-winning, high-performing team that manages one of Banyule's most significant environmental assets and has contributed to Council achieving and maintaining Tree City of the World recognition.
You'll shape the future of Banyule's urban forest, driving canopy expansion, climate resilience, biodiversity outcomes and the delivery of the Urban Forest Strategy across a municipality that is committed to environmental leadership.

About The Role And What You'll Do
As Coordinator Urban Forestry, you will lead and support a team of professionals to deliver responsive and effective services to residents, internal stakeholders and the broader community. You will oversee unit resources, budgets, service planning, compliance, performance reporting and continuous improvement initiatives.
You will play an key role in shaping service delivery, developing business plans, supporting staff performance and development, and providing expert arboriculture advice across the organisation.
Role
This role is ideal for a collaborative and values-driven leader who can balance technical expertise with people leadership, customer service, safety, compliance and operational delivery. You'll:
- Lead the sustainable management of Banyule's urban forest, ensuring the safe, effective and environmentally responsible stewardship of Council's tree assets and urban canopy.
- Provide leadership and operational oversight of the Urban Forestry Unit, fostering a positive culture, strong safety performance, continuous improvement and high-quality service delivery.
- Drive strategic and operational outcomes, including risk and compliance management, contract and budget oversight, and the delivery of Council's urban forest, sustainability and community wellbeing objectives.
This role is part of Banyule's Leadership Network - you'll have opportunities to grow your skills and experience of leadership in a Local Government context and develop your skills as an organisational leader beyond your role-based expertise. About You(what You'll Bring/what We Are Looking For)
You will provide strong operational leadership,
technical expertise and strategic direction to ensure the Urban Forestry Unit delivers high-quality services, meets compliance obligations, manages risk effectively and continues to embed a culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement. To set you up for success you will have:
- A tertiary qualification in arboriculture.
- Contemporary arboriculture knowledge and the ability to communicate technical advice to non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated experience leading, supporting and developing professional teams.
- Experience managing service delivery, projects, contracts, budgets and operational priorities.
- A strong understanding of safety, compliance, assurance and risk management obligations.
- Experience driving change, continuous improvement and better ways of working.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills.
- A commitment to delivering excellent customer service for the community.

- Salary $131,19983 to $146,643.76 per annum, plus super (dependent on experience)
