Whyte Films is looking for an emerging video editor to join our growing creative team!
We’re a creative media agency built specifically for the fitness industry, creating high-quality photo and video content for gyms, coaches, athletes and BIG fitness brands across Australia.
We’re looking for someone who is creative, hungry to improve and genuinely enjoys editing.
This is a freelance/subcontractor position, so the workload will vary depending on our client schedule. Some weeks there may be very little work, while other weeks could involve multiple projects.
What you'll be doing
- Editing short-form fitness and social media content
- Reels, TikToks and other vertical video
- Longer-form content when required
- Selecting the strongest footage and creating engaging edits
- Colour correction and basic colour grading
- Sound design, music selection and syncing
- Adding captions, graphics and other simple motion elements
- Taking feedback and refining edits
- Helping develop the overall Whyte Films editing style
You won't just be cutting footage to a brief. We want someone who can bring their own creative ideas to the edit and help us continually improve the content we produce.
Who we're looking for
This role would suit someone who is early in their career and wants to develop quickly.
You might be
- A film/media student or recent graduate
- An emerging freelance editor
- Someone building their portfolio
- A self-taught editor who's seriously into video
- Someone who already edits their own content and wants more real client work
We're more interested in your eye, creativity and willingness to learn than how many years you've been editing.
You should be comfortable working independently and have a good understanding of Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro or similar editing software.
A genuine interest in fitness, sport, social media or content creation is a big plus.
How the role works
- Freelance / subcontractor
- Remote work is completely fine
- Ideally we'd meet in person around once a month when possible
- Workload will vary depending on client demand
- Projects will generally be quoted or agreed on a project-by-project basis
- You will need your own ABN and be able to issue invoices
- You will need your own computer and editing software
- Paid interstate or international travel opportunities may be offered.
We're looking for someone we can build a long-term working relationship with rather than simply outsourcing random edits.
As you improve, there's potential for the amount and complexity of work to grow with you.
The application process
We're not particularly interested in a long cover letter.
If you're interested, send us:
- Your name
- Where you're based
- A link to your portfolio / previous work
- What editing software you use
- Your usual freelance editing rate
- A short paragraph about why you'd like to work with Whyte Films
Editing Test
Shortlisted applicants will be given a short editing task using Whyte Films footage.
We'll provide the footage and a brief, and ask you to create a short-form social media edit.
We're looking at
- Your editing style
- Pacing
- Music choice
- Storytelling
- Attention to detail
- Understanding of social media
- How well you use the footage
- Your ability to take a brief and make something better
The test is designed to be short!
