Perth, WA (factory floor) | Full-time, permanent | Market-competitive salary
Lead the crew that makes the plan happen, and grow into a purpose-built factory.
This established Perth-based group manufactures modular homes, timber and light-steel frames and trusses, and flooring systems across three businesses from one factory, delivering finished product to sites across Western Australia. Today, modules are built on fixed bays with trades moving to the work. The long-term plan is a bespoke flow-based facility, and the supervisors hired now will be the people who run it.
The Manufacturing Manager sets the plan and the standard. You make both happen on the floor, every shift, with a crew that follows you because of how you treat them, not because of your title.
What you'll be doing
- Leading your bays or line to hit the daily plan published by the Group Scheduler, with every module and frame at the right stage at the right time.
- Running the morning start so the team is briefed, tasks are allocated, and materials and drawings are in hand before tools come out.
- Calling slips early. A problem raised at 9am gets fixed; one raised at 4pm becomes tomorrow's problem.
- Owning quality by making sure every hold point is inspected and signed before work proceeds, and catching and fixing defects at your station.
- Keeping standard work and 5S in place every day, and bringing one improvement idea a week from your team to the Manufacturing Manager.
- Leading a multicultural team where English is a second language for many, with instructions that are clear, demonstrated and checked for understanding.
- Developing leading hands who can run a bay without you standing over them, and building skills coverage for every critical task.
- Running daily pre-starts and toolbox talks, and stopping unsafe work on the spot,
whatever the schedule says.
- Issuing a structured end-of-shift report covering output, quality, safety, labour and issues.
What you'll bring (must-haves)
- At least 5 years in timber frame, light-steel framing, modular or residential construction, including at least 2 years as a leading hand or supervisor.
- Experience leading a crew of 8 or more, with real responsibility for their output, quality and conduct, including people from diverse backgrounds.
- The ability to read architectural and structural drawings and spot when the floor isn't building to them.
- A track record of holding the standard. You can describe a time you stopped work or refused to pass a stage under schedule pressure.
- Full and unrestricted Australian work rights.
Not Essential but advantageous: modular or offsite factory experience; exposure to Lean, 5S or standard work; a Cert IV in Building and Construction or a recognised trade qualification; forklift, EWP or working-at-heights tickets; and experience training apprentices or new starters.
The culture
Being great at the job gets you in the door. Being great to work with keeps you there. This is a business that treats everyone with the same respect, whatever their role, background or level of English, where people own their mistakes, share the credit, and are straight with each other. You'll lead from the floor, stay consistent from Monday morning to Friday afternoon, and take pride in a clean bay and a module that passes first time.
This role isn't for you if you'd rather be on the tools than leading the people who are, if you see quality sign-off as paperwork, or if you keep problems to yourself until they're unfixable.
Where it leads
As the business grows and moves into its purpose-built facility, there's a clear path to Senior Supervisor or Production Lead.
