Type 1 Diabetes Family Centre

Stirling

The Type 1 Diabetes Family Centre is a dynamic not for profit dedicated to improving the lives of children and adults living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). We provide quality health services, innovative community connection, education and peer support, and are now launching our 2030 Strategy to expand our social impact.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Community Experience Officer to join our team in Perth, part-time (15 hours per week) on a 12-month fixed-term contract. Reporting to the Community Experience Lead, you will provide hands-on support across our events and programs calendar, and help keep our online community groups a warm, safe and welcoming place for people living with type 1 diabetes.

This is a practical, hands-on role working closely with and under the direction of the Community Experience Lead. You will be well supported, with clear briefs, established processes and regular guidance – so it suits someone who is organised, enjoys getting things done properly, and is comfortable asking questions along the way.

Lived Experience is Essential

This is a peer role. Our community model of care depends on shared experience – participants trust the Family Centre partly because the people running our programs and community spaces have lived experience with the same condition.

Key Areas of Responsibility

- Events and Programs Delivery: Provide hands-on planning and administrative support for our events and programs calendar – promotion, registration, preparation of materials, set-up, pack-down and attendee data entry.
- On the Day: Coordinate physical set-up and pack-down, and be a welcoming, calm point of contact for participants, families and volunteers.

- Online Community and Peer Engagement: Help moderate our online community groups – welcoming new members, responding to routine queries, keeping the tone respectful and secure, and escalating clinical, safety or wellbeing concerns to the right people.
- Systems, Registrations and Data: Use our digital platforms for promotion, registrations and data capture, and keep participant records accurate and confidential.
- Evaluation and Reporting: Collect participant feedback and attendance data, and contribute to event, program and funder reporting.

What You Will Bring

- Lived Experience: Current lived experience of type 1 diabetes, and the ability to draw on that experience appropriately in a peer support setting.
- Organisation: Good organisational skills and the ability to manage tasks across a busy events calendar.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication, with a warm, professional and approachable manner and a strong participant and customer-service focus.
- Judgement: Sound judgement in peer support settings, and the confidence to ask questions and escalate when something needs more than you can give.
- Flexibility: Availability for some evenings and weekends, and the ability to undertake physical set-up and pack-down tasks.

Benefits

- Salary Packaging:

Maximise your take-home pay with Not-for-Profit salary packaging benefits up to $15,900 per year.
- Your Experience Counts: In this role, what you have learned living with type 1 is a qualification, not something you leave at the door.
- Supportive & Flexible Culture: Join a team that values flexibility and supports you to do your best work, with close day-to-day support from your Community Experience Lead.
- Meaningful Impact: See the direct results of your efforts in the community of children and adults living with type 1 diabetes that we serve every day.

Our Values

We are seeking team members who embody our values of: Action, Collaboration, Empathy, Excellence, Flexibility, and Integrity.

Apply Now Please submit your resume and a short cover letter addressed to the Community Experience Lead, telling us why this role interests you and how your own experience of living with type 1 diabetes would shape the way you support our community.

Applications close: Sunday 18 October 2026

We may commence shortlisting and interviewing prior to the application deadline. Note to Recruitment Agencies: Unsolicited applications from external recruitment agencies will not be accepted. We thank you for respecting our recruitment process.

To be eligible, you must be a person currently living with type 1 diabetes. This is an inherent requirement of the position and a special measure under section 45 of the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth) and section 66 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA). You will be asked to confirm this in your application. Medical evidence is not requested.
