About the role
Join the ACMI Visitor Experience team as a part-time VX Guide – Front of House (FOH) for our new exhibition Lifelike. Opening in November 2026 Lifelike is a major new exhibition celebrating the magic of movie puppetry in all its forms. ACMI's VX Guides are responsible for the operational delivery of Lifelike, and our other public facing programs.
VX Guides – Front of House (FOH) welcome a diverse range of visitors to our museum including families, students and tourists. VX Guides are generous and proactive in supporting visitors to have a positive and memorable experience at ACMI. VX Guides deliver talks, tours and introductions to visiting groups including schools, assist visitors in exhibitions and perform gallery invigilation.
This Grade 2 role is offered on a fixed term, part-time basis with a base rate of $31.32 an hour, plus super & allowances. Available contracts range from 36 - 58 hours/fortnight and will run from 22 November 2026 – 18 April 2027. However, you will need to be available from 8 November onwards for training.
What you'll bring to the role
- Demonstrated experience in delivering high-quality customer service with the ability to confidently sell and promote the museum's paid offers.
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills,
with the ability to engage members of the public by presenting a working knowledge of exhibition concepts to enhance the visitor experience. Experience delivering talks and tours to groups.
- Demonstrated ability to work flexibly and collaboratively in a diverse visitor experience team with the capacity to learn and apply new skills, processes and procedures.
- The ability to operate calmly and effectively in an workplace of high visitor volumes, including school groups, ensuring the safety of visitors and exhibition works.
- The ability to work according to a fortnightly roster, which will include working every second weekend, and occasional evenings.

Please note interviews will be held 19-20 October 2026 onsite at ACMI. If selected for an interview you will be required to deliver a 1-minute talk on a moving image work of your choice e.g., a game, film, artwork, or object from the ACMI collection.
