About the City of Kalamunda The City of Kalamunda is a local authority with a population of 60,000 located approximately a 35 minute drive from the Perth CBD providing the opportunity to work in a varied planning environment, from rural natural bushland to highly developed residential, commercial and industrial areas.
About this Opportunity
Play a key role in shaping the City’s future waste services by delivering innovative projects that improve sustainability, operational efficiency, and community outcomes. This diverse role will lead and support strategic initiatives including the Waste Management Plan, commercial waste programs, transfer station improvements, resource recovery opportunities, contract management, compliance activities, and waste data analysis. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, you will help drive continuous improvement, increase environmental performance, and support the delivery of high-quality waste services across the City.
Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead projects supporting the City's Waste Management Plan and future waste initiatives.
- Drive resource recovery opportunities and service improvements.
- Analyse waste data and deliver innovative solutions to improve sustainability and operational efficiency.
- Manage waste-related contracts, tenders and stakeholder relationships.
- Support transfer station improvements, compliance activities and strategic waste projects.
For more information about the role please refer to the position description. The successful candidate will have the following:
- Relevant qualification and/or equivalent experience in waste management,
environmental science, project management, or local government operations.
- Current C class driver’s licence.
- Ongoing professional development in project management, waste operations, or related disciplines will be supported and encouraged.
- A satisfactory National Police Certificate

Selection Criteria
1. Demonstrated experience in waste management, environmental services, or related technical roles.
2. Experienced in preparing tenders and contract management.
3. Strong analytical, organisational, and reporting skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
4. Proven ability to engage and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
5. Sound understanding of waste legislation, State Waste Strategy 2030, and WALGA guidelines.
6. Experience in commercial waste service development, FOGO operations, or transfer station management.
7. Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and innovation in waste management practices.
Hours of Work This is a permanent full-time position working Monday to Friday, 75 hours per fortnight.
About the Benefits
This position offers a salary of Level 7 being $102,391.49 to $108,637.34 per annum , (depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant) plus 12% superannuation.
