- Base Salary: $61,249 - $65,227 (p.a.)
- Total Effective Package: $78,937 - $83,433 (p.a.)*

About the role

The Student Midwifery Trainee (SMT) will work under the direct supervision of a Midwife within a defined scope of practice, to deliver midwifery care in acute or primary health care settings.

The SMT will be supported to complete all essential training requirements, including attendance at face-to-face simulation blocks and clinical placements at Congress clinics and tertiary hospitals as specified by the university Batchelor of Midwifery program.

The SMT will assist in the delivery of maternity care to Alukura Maternity Group Practice (AMGP) clients whilst gaining a broad understanding of the duties and responsibilities of a Midwife and provision of midwifery care within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service MGP setting.

To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the following essential requirements:

- A long-term local resident of Central Australia.
- Have a passion and commitment to the care and outcomes of Indigenous women
- A female of Aboriginal descent; identifies and is accepted as an Aboriginal person by the Aboriginal community in Central Australia.
- Undertaking or intending to undertake a Batchelor of Midwifery qualification with a commitment to pursuing a career in this field post-graduation in Central Australia.




- Intend to practice as a midwife in Central Australia after graduating.
- Well-developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication, consultation, negotiation and liaison skills (especially in relation to Aboriginal families and communities) including the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Well-developed organisational and administrative skills, including effective time management, analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to deliver quality work with support and supervision.
- Current Drivers Licence.
