Customer Service Representative – Grow into Sales
Wetherill Park, Sydney NSW | Full-time
Client & Sales Administration | Administration & Office Support
Love helping customers and ready to build a future in sales?
This opportunity is for someone who wants to become a trusted customer contact, learn the products and develop the confidence to take on a more sales-focused role over time.
We’re looking for a proactive, organised and commercially minded Customer Service Representative who brings enthusiasm, initiative and a genuine interest in progressing into sales.
You’ll begin by building a solid foundation in customer service, order processing and freight coordination, with scope to take on greater sales responsibilities as your knowledge and capabilities develop.
The opportunity
Reporting to the Customer Service Team Leader, you’ll help deliver a positive customer experience from the first enquiry through to delivery. Working closely with customers, Accounts and warehouse teams, you’ll prepare quotes, process orders, coordinate deliveries and keep customers informed.
The hiring manager is looking for someone who is willing, keen and capable of growing into a sales position. You don’t need to arrive as an experienced salesperson, but you should enjoy building relationships, be curious about what customers need and feel motivated by the opportunity to turn enquiries into orders.
What you’ll be doing
Customer service and relationship building
- Respond to phone and email enquiries in a friendly, professional and courteous manner.
- Assist customers with product information, quotations, order updates and delivery enquiries.
- Build positive customer relationships through reliable communication and consistent follow-through.
- Provide product data sheets and brochures to help customers make informed decisions.
- Develop your product knowledge so you can recommend suitable alternatives when items are in short supply.
- Take an interest in customers’ requirements and learn how to identify opportunities to provide additional value.
Quotes, sales orders and account administration
- Prepare and enter quotations and sales orders into the computer system, checking pricing and order details for accuracy.
- Issue sales order acknowledgements with the correct pricing and expected delivery dates.
- Assist new customers with account setup forms, including prepaid arrangements for their first five transactions.
- Provide credit account application forms where required and liaise with Finance regarding credit checks and approved limits.
- Confirm customer accounts are within credit terms with the Accounts team before requesting order release.
- Process customer credit card payments over the phone in line with company procedures.
Stock, dispatch and freight coordination
- Check stock availability across warehouses to confirm where orders can be fulfilled and establish expected delivery dates.
- Refer to allocation information when customer demand exceeds available stock.
- Obtain freight quotes through freight providers’ online platforms.
- Calculate cubic metres accurately to support freight calculations.
- Coordinate order release and packing slip requirements with the relevant warehouse.
- Obtain packed order dimensions and book freight.
- Track and trace shipments, follow up on delivery progress and keep customers updated.
Growing into sales
As you develop your product knowledge and understanding of the business, you’ll be expected to show initiative and readiness to take on more sales-focused responsibilities. These may include:
- Following up on quotations and helping convert enquiries into confirmed orders.
- Asking questions to better understand customer needs and recommend suitable products.
- Recognising opportunities for additional or repeat business.
- Becoming more proactive in customer conversations and relationship development.
- Taking greater ownership of sales opportunities as your confidence and capability grow.
What we’re looking for
Your attitude and ambition will be just as important as your experience. You’ll be someone who enjoys helping people,
takes ownership of their work and wants to develop beyond a purely administrative role.
You’ll bring:
- Experience in customer service, sales administration, order processing or a similar role.
- A clear interest in progressing into sales and a willingness to work towards that next step.
- Confidence speaking with customers and building rapport over the phone and by email.
- Curiosity, initiative and a willingness to learn products and ask questions.
- Openness to feedback and the motivation to develop your sales skills.
- Strong attention to detail when checking pricing, entering orders and maintaining customer information.
- The ability to prioritise tasks and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- Confidence using computer systems and online platforms.
- Sound numeracy skills, including the ability to calculate cubic metres.
- A practical, dependable approach to solving problems and following through.
- The ability to work collaboratively with customer service, finance and warehouse teams.
Previous experience with freight coordination, stock enquiries or customer account administration would be valuable. Exposure to sales or quote follow-up would also be an advantage.
Why consider this role?
- Build towards a career in sales: Put your customer service strengths to work while developing the product knowledge and commercial confidence to take on sales responsibilities.
- Enjoy a varied role: Combine customer conversations with quotations, order management and delivery coordination.
- Develop relationships that matter: Become a reliable point of contact who understands customers and helps meet their needs.
- Make your initiative count: Bring a proactive approach to following up enquiries, finding solutions and recognising opportunities.
- Learn how the business works: Gain experience across the customer journey, from initial enquiry and account setup through to dispatch and delivery.
- Work locally in Wetherill Park: A full-time opportunity in Sydney’s west.
