Are you passionate about supporting Aboriginal young people and making a meaningful difference in the justice system?

NAAJA is looking for a Youth Client Services Officer to join our Darwin Criminal Law team. This is an opportunity to work directly with clients, lawyers, families, community organisations and other services to help Aboriginal young people navigate the justice system and access the support they need.

What you’ll be doing

Working alongside our Youth Criminal Law team, you’ll play an key role in supporting clients both in Darwin and, when required, in remote communities.

Your day will be varied and may include:

- Attending Darwin prison and juvenile detention facilities to meet with clients and provide support, information, referrals and follow-up.
- Helping young people and their families understand and navigate services and support available to them.
- Supporting lawyers and social workers by communicating with clients and gathering relevant information.
- Helping develop bail proposals, including arranging accommodation and transport.
- Connecting clients with services such as emergency accommodation, rehabilitation, community corrections and other support agencies.




- Driving and providing transport to clients and their families where required, including for court, appointments, accommodation, repatriation and other client-related needs.
- Preparing court lists, organising files and supporting duty lawyer and bush court services.
- Building strong relationships with Aboriginal communities and service providers.
- Travelling to remote communities to support circuit court services when required.

About you

You’ll bring a strong understanding of Aboriginal culture and society, along with an understanding of the issues Aboriginal people experience within the criminal justice system.

We’re looking for someone who:

- Builds respectful and trusting relationships with Aboriginal young people, families and communities.
- Communicates confidently and respectfully with clients and a wide range of stakeholders.
- Has a genuine commitment to providing high-quality client service.
- Can work independently, use initiative and manage competing priorities.
- Works well as part of a small and supportive team.
- Has experience with administration, data entry, email and file management.
- Can develop relationships and networks with other agencies and community services.
- Is willing and able to travel to remote communities when required.




- Is confident driving and providing transport to clients when required.

A current Northern Territory C Class driver’s licence and the ability to obtain an Ochre Card are required.
