Overview

About the role

We’re looking for a Senior Account Manager to join our Corporate team in Sydney.

Working across a diverse portfolio of Australian and global organisations, you’ll help deliver communications programs across sectors including technology, financial services, health and the future of work.

This is a hands-on role for someone who combines strong communications skills with excellent organisation and relationship management. You’ll manage day-to-day client relationships, coordinate activity across accounts and help keep programs moving from planning through to delivery.

You’ll work across corporate communications, media relations, thought leadership, executive profiling and stakeholder engagement. This could include translating technical, regulated or research-led information into clear media materials, developing proactive story opportunities, preparing spokespeople for interviews or coordinating the different stakeholders involved in an announcement or campaign.

You’ll work closely with senior agency leaders, who will provide strategic direction and senior counsel, while taking ownership of the day-to-day delivery of your accounts. You’ll also support and mentor junior consultants, helping the team produce high-quality work and meet client expectations.

No two days will look the same, but you’ll spend your time developing stories, writing and editing communications materials, building media relationships, coordinating stakeholders, advising clients on day-to-day activity and identifying proactive opportunities.

What we’re looking for in you

First and foremost, we want you to live our values: Show Up Fearless, Stay Curious, Be Kind and Go Home Proud. Team culture is everything to us.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys getting to know a client’s business and can quickly make sense of new or unfamiliar subject matter. You can absorb detailed information, ask thoughtful questions and turn what you learn into communications that are clear, accurate and engaging.

You’re proactive, calm under pressure and highly organised. You enjoy building strong client relationships, working with different stakeholders and bringing structure to accounts with multiple deadlines and workstreams.

You’re equally comfortable speaking with a client, interviewing a subject-matter expert, drafting a media release, pitching a journalist, preparing a spokesperson or rolling up your sleeves to keep an important deliverable on track.

Most importantly, you’re curious, collaborative and committed to producing high-quality work that delivers a meaningful result for clients.

In terms of skills and experience, ideally you’ll have:

- Around 5–7 years’ experience in PR, corporate affairs, communications or a related discipline.
- Experience managing day-to-day client relationships and communications programs.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple accounts, deadlines and stakeholders.
- The curiosity and confidence to quickly understand unfamiliar industries, organisations and subject areas.
- The ability to translate technical, regulated or research-led information into clear and accessible communications.
- Excellent writing and editing skills across media materials, thought leadership, briefing documents and client communications.
- Strong media relations experience, particularly across business, technology, finance, health, trade or national news media.
- A track record of identifying, developing and landing compelling media stories.
- Experience supporting executive profiling, spokesperson preparation and corporate announcements.
- Good judgement and attention to detail, including an awareness of stakeholder sensitivities and reputational considerations.
- The confidence to contribute ideas, make considered recommendations and communicate clearly with clients.
- Experience supporting and mentoring junior consultants and contributing to a collaborative team culture.
- Commercial awareness, with experience managing scopes, budgets and timelines.
- Enthusiasm for working across integrated agency teams and specialist disciplines.

What we can offer you

- The chance to work with leading Australian and global organisations across a diverse range of sectors.
- Exposure to senior business leaders, subject-matter experts and high-profile communications programs.
- A dedicated Career Manager and industry-leading learning and development opportunities.
- Unrivalled career growth and progression within our strengths-based culture.
- The opportunity to take ownership of your work, build strong client relationships and continue developing your corporate communications expertise.

At Herd MSL, we encourage our people to work in a way that provides balance, and we pride ourselves on fostering a behaviour-led approach to flexibility. We’re ambitious, collaborative and genuinely enjoy working together, creating an environment where people are encouraged to learn, challenge themselves and do their best work.

As part of our team, you’ll also enjoy flexible working, Birthday Leave, industry-leading parental leave, health and wellbeing support, volunteering leave, additional leave with tenure and access to some of the best learning, mentoring and career development opportunities in the industry.

If you’re a relationship-builder who enjoys getting across new subject matter, developing strong stories and delivering high-quality communications programs, we’d love to hear from you.
