Policy Officer
Location – Parramatta
Employment type – 12-month Temporary role (possibility of an extension or moving to ongoing)
Salary range – $116,981 to $129,492 pa plus employer contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading
Your role
As part of the Policy Team within the Office of the NSW Anti-slavery Commissioner (‘OASC’), you will support the Commissioner and the Principal Policy Manager to research, develop and implement policy advice, strategic projects, and innovative solutions to combat up-to-date slavery.
What you’ll do
You’ll support the development and delivery of policy initiatives that help combat modern slavery in NSW. Your day-to-day tasks will include conducting research, assisting with drafting policy documents and submissions, and contributing to projects that align with the Commissioner’s statutory functions.
You’ll provide project support by helping prepare discussion papers, briefs and submissions, and help coordinate working groups, meetings, stakeholder consultations, and other events.
You’ll also manage relationships with key stakeholders in government, civil society and business, as well as people with lived experience of modern slavery.
You will work as part of a small team and be required to manage the provision of high-quality policy and law reform advice in a high-volume work environment, in line with the Commissioner’s statutory functions as well as internal and external timelines.
What we’re looking for
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as human rights, public policy, economics, politics, social work, law, psychology, sociology or criminology, or equivalent level experience.
- Experience working on issues related to modern slavery or to law reform, human rights and/or vulnerable populations.
- Researching, drafting, writing and/or editorial experience, preferably across different professional contexts.
- Excellent communication skills, including trauma-informed and cross-cultural communication.
