NAAJA Throughcare is looking for a passionate and experienced Kunga’s Children Case Manager to join our Throughcare team in Alice Springs.

This is a unique opportunity to help create positive pathways for children and young people through a new and innovative pilot program. You’ll build meaningful relationships with children, families and communities, providing culturally safe and holistic support that builds on their strengths and helps strengthen connections to family, kin, Country, education and community.

This role is about more than case management. It’s about advocating for children and young people, supporting their wellbeing and helping them access the relationships, opportunities and support they need to thrive.

About the role

As the Kunga’s Children Case Manager, you’ll manage a caseload of children and young people and work closely with their families, kin, communities and other stakeholders.

You’ll:

- Build trusting and culturally safe relationships with children, young people and families.
- Assess potential participants and develop individual case plans focused on their best interests.
- Provide holistic support, mentoring and advocacy.
- Help children and young people strengthen their connections to family, kin and Country.
- Support access to education, recreation and other opportunities that promote positive wellbeing and development.
- Monitor progress and maintain accurate case records throughout each participant’s journey.
- Work collaboratively with families, communities and other services to achieve positive outcomes.
- Contribute to the development, monitoring and evaluation of this new pilot program.




- Prepare reports and correspondence and maintain accurate case and data management.
- Participate in reflective practice, supervision and professional development.

Depending on the needs of the program and subject to any conflicts of interest, you may also have the opportunity to support NAAJA’s Kunga Stopping Violence Program, including providing case management to Kunga participants and contributing to the delivery of a trauma, grief and loss and violence prevention course in prison.

About you

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about working with children, young people and families and who understands the importance of culturally safe, trauma-informed and person-centred practice.

You’ll bring:

- Demonstrated experience in case management, support and advocacy, particularly with First Nations peoples in Central Australia.
- A strong understanding of the issues affecting vulnerable and at-risk children and young people in Central Australia and the Northern Territory.
- The ability to work respectfully and effectively with First Nations children, young people, families, kin, communities and stakeholders.
- A commitment to reflective practice and working safely with vulnerable people.
- The ability to build strong relationships while maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to contribute positively to a diverse team.

A current Northern Territory C Class driver’s licence is required, along with the ability to obtain an Ochre Card and satisfy the required criminal history checks.

The Kunga’s Children Pilot Program is being developed to support children and young people affected by the incarceration of their mothers. You’ll not only work directly with participants—you’ll contribute to the development, monitoring and evaluation of the program itself.

You’ll be supported through regular supervision, reflective practice and training, recognising the importance of working safely and sustainably in a role involving vulnerable children, young people and families.
