We're seeking a Laboratory Assistant (Cytogenetics) to join our team in Milton. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a genuine interest in science and laboratory work who is looking to gain practical experience in a diagnostic laboratory environment.

Working alongside experienced Scientists, you'll receive comprehensive on-the-job training while developing valuable skills in specimen processing, laboratory operations and cytogenetic laboratory techniques.

About the Role

This is a practical, laboratory-based position providing support across a range of cytogenetic laboratory processes.

You'll assist with specimen processing, slide preparation, scanning activities, laboratory maintenance and general laboratory operations while working within a supportive and quality-focused team environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Specimen Processing

- Receive and accession laboratory specimens

- Process samples and support culture preparation activities

- Assist with specimen harvesting processes





- Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation

- Laboratory Support

- Prepare laboratory slides and assist with staining procedures

- Operate scanning and laboratory equipment

- Load and unload samples as required

- Assist Scientists with day-to-day laboratory activities

- Laboratory Operations

- Maintain laboratory cleanliness and hygiene standards

- Monitor consumables and laboratory supplies

- Manage temperature logs and equipment records

- Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and work areas

- Support quality, safety and compliance requirements

About You

Desirable Experience

The following would be advantageous but is not essential:

- Previous laboratory experience

- Biomedical Science studies

- TAFE Laboratory Operations or Laboratory Skills qualifications





- Pathology or diagnostic laboratory exposure

- Experience working within quality systems or documented procedures

- Scientific or technical coursework

Working Arrangements

- Permanent Part-Time (0.6 FTE)

- The laboratory operates seven days per week

- Availability to work either Saturday or Sunday as part of your regular roster is required

- Additional weekday availability during the initial training period is preferred

- Comprehensive training and competency assessment will be provided
