We know that reception is the hardest job in a veterinary clinic – it is crucial to make the right first impression on our clients. What happens in reception flows on to everyone else in the clinic so it is vitally important for our staff and our business to find the right person for our reception position.

About the Position:

- Do you want to join a small friendly team looking to make a positive difference in our community?
- We are looking for a veterinary receptionist to join us in a permanent part-time role (ideally 2 or 3 days per week but we can be flexible!). Remuneration is well above award and will be negotiated based on experience.
- Greeting clients and their pets with a warm welcome.
- Managing appointments and fielding client queries via phone and email.
- Handling payments and transactions.
- Keeping our reception and consult areas tidy and stocked.
- General administration to help keep the clinic running smoothly.

- Excellent customer service and communication skills with professional telephone manner
- Warm and friendly personality, both in person and over the phone
- Positive can-do attitude and a sense of humour
- Enthusiastic, proactive and self-motivated with strong common sense
- Genuine enthusiasm for helping people (someone has to bring the animals in!)
- Confidence in dealing with people and with computers
- Ability to listen to and determine clients and team members’ needs and requirements




- Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure during busy periods
- Exceptional time management and organisational skills
- Good attention to detail and a passion for problem-solving
- Ability to work as part of a small team

- Desirable:

- Previous experience with veterinary reception
- Good over the counter product knowledge (flea, worm etc products)
- Experience with marketing including social media

About Us:

- Cowra Veterinary Centre is a 2.5-vet rural mixed practice located in the central west of NSW. We have a relatively new purpose-built clinic, so everything is well designed and works really well.
- Our caseload is approximately 3/4 small animal and 1/4 large animal (beef cattle, horses, sheep, dairy cattle). We are open 5.5 days per week and offer an after hours emergency service. We run a branch practice in a nearby town two days per week.
- We have a small, happy, and harmonious team (6 vets, 12 part-time receptionists/nurses). We believe in the importance of a positive work-life balance (work to live, not live to work) so operate on a 4 day work week roster for our full time vets and nurses and we encourage positive mental health practices. Continuing education is strongly encouraged for all staff.
