About the role

Join a dynamic research team supporting innovative projects across cancer equity and allied health research. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to impactful research focused on improving health outcomes for diverse and multicultural communities. This is a casual opportunity for approximately six months, ideal for someone seeking hands‑on experience in a collaborative and community-focused research environment.

The Australian Centre for Cancer Equity (AcCE) is dedicated to advancing health equity for priority populations through the development and implementation of cutting‑edge digital and AI solutions. Despite Australia’s world‑leading cancer outcomes, significant disparities persist, particularly among culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) populations, due to barriers in health literacy, language, and access to evidence‑based clinical information.

Working across a diverse portfolio of research projects, the successful candidate will support the implementation and evaluation of research activities, with a particular focus on consumer and community engagement, co‑design, qualitative research,

and culturally responsive practices.

The Research Assistant, AcCE & Allied Health Research will collaborate with consumers, community representatives, health professionals, interpreters, and other key stakeholders to support participant recruitment, informed consent processes, interviews and workshops, data collection and management, stakeholder engagement, project coordination, and the dissemination of research findings.

About You

Bachelor’s degree in Allied Health, Public Health, Health Promotion, Social Sciences, Psychology, Community Development, or a related discipline.

Experience conducting qualitative research, including interviews, focus groups and/or co‑design workshops.

Demonstrated experience engaging consumers, carers and community members in health research.

Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities and applying culturally responsive research practices.

Knowledge of culturally sensitive recruitment, informed consent and data collection processes, including working with interpreters and translated materials.

Experience with data collection, database management, research documentation, and the use of Microsoft Excel and NVivo (or similar qualitative analysis software).

Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, and maintain attention to detail.

Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences.

Highly professional, adaptable and solutions‑focused, with a positive, proactive approach to work.

Collaborative team player who takes initiative and contributes to achieving team goals and high‑quality outcomes.

Experience in consumer and community involvement (CCI) or consumer partnership approaches in health research.

Experience in cancer equity, health services research, implementation science and/or allied health research.

Experience contributing to peer‑reviewed publications, grant applications or conference presentations.

This position requires on‑going, unrestricted working rights in Australia. Due to the nature of the role, we are unable to consider candidates requiring visa sponsorship.

Any offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory National Police Check and NSW Health service checks. The assessment seeks information only relevant to performing the inherent requirements of the job, it remains strictly confidential, and applicants will be informed of the result.

As a public health charity endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient, salary packaging opportunities are available to Institute employees.

This role is being managed directly, and we are not engaging recruitment agencies at this time.
