My client is a specialist geochemistry consultancy working with mining and resources clients across Australia and internationally.

They are not a big multidisciplinary firm where geochemistry is a side offering. It is what they do, they have been at it for decades, and they developed a number of the test methods now used across the industry.

They have a strong pipeline of contracted work and are hiring several geochemists, from graduate through to senior.

The work

- Geochemical assessments of mine and infrastructure projects, from compiling geological and assay data through to what it means for materials management and closure
- Designing sampling programmes, then preparing and managing the laboratory test programmes that follow
- Assessing ARD and NMD potential and building the management plans around it
- Contributing to approvals, PRCP submissions and closure plans
- Site visits and field sampling
- Writing the technical reports that go to clients and regulators

You will work across the full project life, from exploration and feasibility through operations to closure, rather than being stuck at one stage.

What you must have

- Degree in geology, chemistry, environmental geochemistry or similar
- Experience in environmental consulting or with a mining company (graduates considered where the study or site background fits)
- An understanding of material characterisation, including static and kinetic leachate data
- Sound technical writing

Useful, but not essential

- PHREEQC or similar geochemical modelling, and GIS




- Time on a mine site and an understanding of how a site actually runs

They are versatile on background. Geology or chemistry is the usual route, but they have people who came in from elsewhere. You also do not need to have been a consultant - if you are doing this work inside a mining company and fancy the move, they are interested in chatting.
