Job Description
Production Mechanical Engineer Salary: A$80,000 – A$95,000 + Super Location: On-site (Australia) | Full-time, Permanent
Role Overview We are seeking an energetic Production Mechanical Engineer with at least 1.5 years of practical experience to support a dynamic manufacturing operation. In this role, you will bridge the gap between mechanical maintenance, process optimisation, and shop-floor execution, ensuring automated production lines run safely, efficiently, and at peak capacity.
Primary Responsibilities Plant Machinery & Reliability Maintain peak performance across plastic film extrusion lines, bag converting equipment, rewinders, slitters, granulators, recycling systems, and auxiliary plant equipment.
Execute preventative maintenance programs and deliver fast, effective root-cause troubleshooting during unplanned mechanical breakdowns. Coordinate equipment setup, changeovers, upgrades, and production startup activities to maximise uptime and operational efficiency. Assist in managing spare parts inventory and equipment maintenance records.
Process Improvement & Optimisation Analyse production efficiency, identify operational bottlenecks, and optimise machine parameters to improve output, reduce waste, and enhance product quality. Update and standardise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical work instructions to support continuous improvement initiatives.
Work alongside Quality Assurance to investigate product defects, implement corrective actions, and maintain compliance with customer and quality requirements. Support lean manufacturing projects focused on productivity, waste reduction, and cost savings. Operational Support & Safety
Assist plant management with production scheduling and capacity planning to ensure customer requirements are met on time. Monitor raw material flow and coordinate with inventory control personnel to prevent production interruptions.
Provide technical guidance, safety training, and hands-on support to machine operators and production staff.
Maintain accurate maintenance records, downtime reports, and key production metrics. Participate in risk assessments, safety audits, and continuous workplace safety improvements. Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Key Requirements Education Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
Experience Minimum 1.5 years of hands-on experience in plastics extrusion, film manufacturing, packaging production, recycling operations, or a high-volume manufacturing environment. Technical Skills
Strong understanding of mechanical systems, preventative maintenance, fault-finding, and manufacturing process optimisation. Experience troubleshooting automated production equipment and machinery. Ability to interpret technical drawings, manuals, and engineering documentation.
Robust analytical and problem-solving skills. Personal Attributes Self-motivated with a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. High attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.
