About the Role
This role is part of the Visitor Economy team within the Economic and Cultural Development unit. The team plays an important role in strengthening the Mornington Peninsula’s visitor economy by encouraging visitors and locals to explore more of the region and experience it throughout the year.
The team also works closely with event organisers, businesses and community groups to attract events to the Peninsula and support the delivery of community-led events. Together, this helps create a vibrant calendar of experiences that benefits visitors,
local businesses and the community.
Reporting to the Team Leader Visitor Economy the core responsibilities include:
- Tourism connections, partnerships and packaging - Build connections between event organisers, local businesses and visitor economy partners to identify and develop opportunities that enhance visitor experiences, encourage dispersal and extend visitation across the Peninsula.
- Tourism experiences and activations - Identify, develop and coordinate opportunities for engaging activations that connect visitors and residents with local places, businesses and experiences across the Peninsula.
- Visitor economy information and engagement - Maintain accurate and connected events information and support relationships with event organisers, industry, businesses and internal teams to support a well-planned and coordinated year-round events calendar.
About You
You will thrive in this role if you enjoy building connections, spotting opportunities and bringing people together to create great visitor experiences. You will be adaptable and collaborative, with a practical approach to coordinating multiple activities and making things happen behind the scenes.
- Education and Experience – tertiary qualifications in Tourism, Events, Economic Development, Marketing & Communications or a related field and demonstrated experience working in tourism or events or related field.
- Visitor Economy and Events Knowledge – Understanding of the tourism and events sectors, including the role events can play in attracting visitors, encouraging dispersal, supporting local businesses and creating community and economic benefits.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration – Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with event organisers, local businesses, tourism operators, industry associations and internal stakeholders to identify and develop partnership opportunities and facilitate collaboration.
- Event Development and Activation – Experience supporting events, activations or visitor experiences, with an understanding of how to connect event activity with accommodation, food and beverage, attractions and other visitor economy businesses.
- Communication, Planning and Coordination – Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences, coordinate multiple activities, maintain accurate information and manage competing priorities.
