A parttime position is available for an Occupational Health and Safety Officer to join our enthusiastic team of Health Professionals in the People & Culture Department at Swan Hill District Health.
The Position
The Occupational Health & Safety Officer is responsible for supporting the effective day-to-day delivery, administration, and continuous improvement of the organisation's health and safety programs, systems, and processes. Working closely with the OH&S; Manager, the role provides high-level administrative and operational support to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004, Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017, and relevant safety management standards.
The position assists in maintaining the Occupational Health & Safety Risk Management System and Emergency Preparedness System, ensuring organisational policies, procedures, records, and reporting requirements are current and compliant. The OH&S; Officer contributes to hazard identification, risk management, incident reporting, safety monitoring, and staff support initiatives that promote a safe and healthy workplace. The role also supports compliance with Department of Health emergency management requirements for Victorian health services and contributes to building a positive safety culture through collaboration, education, communication, and continuous improvement activities across the organisation.
You Bring
- Completion of at least a Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health and Safety, Business Administration, or a related discipline, or an equivalent qualification relevant to the field of practice.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records,
manage multiple priorities, prepare reports, and coordinate occupational health and safety activities in a timely and systematic manner.
- Demonstrated knowledge of workplace health and safety principles, legislation, and risk management practices, with the ability to provide routine safety advice, support compliance activities, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to build positive working relationships with employees, managers, Health and Safety Representatives, contractors, and external stakeholders.
- A collaborative and proactive approach, with the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement within defined procedures, and contribute to a positive safety culture that aligns with SHDH's values of Connected Care and Best Experience.
- Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and continuous learning, including a willingness to undertake further OH&S; training and development opportunities.
Mandatory requirements
- Current National Police Check, or will to obtain.
- Working with Children’s Check, or will to obtain.
- NDIS worker screening check, or will to obtain.
- Evidence of immunisation records/history as part of the Health Services Act 1988,
2020 Amendment (Mandatory Vaccination of Healthcare Workers).
