THE ROLE

The Counselling and Restorative Engagement team is part of Family Services, Evidence, Redress and Lived Experience. The team manages the operational aspects of counselling and restorative engagement for three redress programs including Redress for the Historical Institutional Abuse (Redress) program. Redress has been set up for people who experienced abuse and neglect in historic institutional settings in Victoria prior to 1990.

The primary function of the senior engagement office (SEO)



role is to deliver restorative engagement to clients who have accepted an offer of redress and wish to receive a personal acknowledgement and apology (PAA). Functions will include identifying and working with an external facilitator and Victorian Government institutional representative (at executive level) to support the delivery of the PAA via an in-person meeting, written letter or both.

The role will work with Redress clients at all stages of the restorative process, to help assess individual needs and circumstances and to support clients to achieve their key justice and healing needs, using a trauma informed approach.

This position will work collaboratively with colleagues across the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, support services, other government departments, facilitators and senior executives to provide trauma-informed support to Redress clients who choose to engage in restorative engagement processes.

Please note: this position requires dealing with sensitive material that can be emotionally challenging. This role will best suit resilient and empathetic candidates with experience in dealing with sensitive and distressing material.

ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE

- Provide restorative engagement specialist services and advice to clients, support organisations, facilitators and internal stakeholders.
- Supervise and support a small team of employees by:
- leading and supporting individuals to achieve their potential and contribution to organisational goals and outcomes
- modelling behaviours integral to valuable people management and departmental values
- where relevant, managing and monitoring specific improvement objectives in annual improvement plans relating to the area of responsibility
- pro-actively building and maintaining positive relationships with peers and stakeholders across the organisation.

- Build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholder s to facilitate a partnership approach for the delivery of restorative engagement.
