People Services & Support Advisor

Clerk Grade 7/8

• Help build a modern frontline People & Culture service

• 2x Ongoing and 1 Temporary roles

• Make HR easier to access and navigate for employees and leaders

We are recruiting People Services & Support Advisor roles, Ongoing and Temporary, at Clerk Grade 7/8, with a minimum salary of $116,981, negotiable on experience plus superannuation. The roles are based in Sydney, with flexible ways of working supported.

What it’s like to work at Legal Aid NSW

Practical people support that helps meaningful work happen

Legal Aid NSW supports people facing complex legal and social challenges across NSW. Our employees do demanding and meaningful work, and People & Culture plays an important role in helping them access the support they need.

We are modernising People & Culture

Legal Aid NSW is modernising how People & Culture works. We are building a more connected and responsive service model, using better technology, clearer service pathways and stronger insights to make HR simpler, more consistent and easier to access for employees and leaders.

People Services & Support will be a key part of that model. The team will provide frontline HR advice and service, help people navigate employee lifecycle processes and make sure work reaches the right part of People & Culture.

Why this role matters

When someone contacts People & Culture, the experience should be clear, practical and useful. You will help make that happen.

You will provide advice to managers and employees across policies, procedures, employment conditions, payroll-related matters and employee lifecycle processes. You will assess enquiries, resolve issues where you can, identify what needs specialist support and help maintain accurate establishment and employee information.

What this role is like day to day

The work will be varied and fast-moving.

You might help a manager understand an employment process, resolve an employee enquiry, coordinate an establishment change, work through a payroll-related issue, manage a straightforward people matter or identify that something needs to be escalated to Employee Relations or a People Partner.

You will use HR systems, case management tools and service channels every day. You will also notice patterns. If people keep asking the same question, something may need fixing. If a process creates unnecessary work, we want you to help improve it.

What you’ll be trusted to do

- Provide responsive, accurate and practical HR advice to managers and employees across the employee lifecycle

- Manage frontline HR enquiries through approved service channels, ensuring matters are triaged, recorded, prioritised and resolved appropriately

- Manage straightforward operational people matters within defined responsibilities and know when to escalate complex, sensitive or high-risk issues

- Coordinate establishment and organisational management activity, including position, reporting line and structural updates

- Support onboarding, commencement, payroll-related and employment administration processes accurately and on time

- Maintain HR systems, case records, employee files and establishment data to support payroll accuracy, reporting and audit readiness

- Identify recurring enquiry themes and service gaps and contribute to better procedures, knowledge content, templates and service pathways

- Work across Talent Acquisition, Business Partnering, Employee Relations, Payroll and other teams to provide a connected service

You’ll succeed in this role if you…

You like solving problems and making things easier for people to navigate.

You are likely someone who:

- has experience in HR advisory, employee services, HR operations, payroll administration, shared services or a similar service environment

- can manage a high volume of work without losing accuracy or customer focus

- can explain HR processes clearly and practically

- uses judgement rather than simply passing difficult questions on

- knows when something is outside your remit and needs escalation

- is comfortable using HR systems and technology and interested in finding better ways to work

- maintains confidentiality and accurate records even when priorities compete

Essential Requirements

- Undertake relevant pre-employment checks such as Criminal Record Check, and Conduct Service Check.
- Relevant experience in recruitment, human resources or workforce services.
- Willingness to travel to regional and metropolitan offices as required.
- Hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency (for ongoing roles) or a valid visa to work in Australia (for temporary roles)
