We're looking for an exceptional team member to join Slate as our Strategy & Operations Manager. You'll report to our General Manager & Head of Product and work directly with our CEO on the problems that matter most to the business, whatever and wherever they are.
About Slate
Slate is building the lending platform of the future. Policy as code, instant document verification and AI-powered pre-assessments mean lenders, brokers and their clients get a decision in minutes instead of days, and credit teams spend their time deciding rather than processing paperwork.
We work hand in hand with lenders, including OwnHome, who are transforming access to homeownership. We're an AI-native team in Sydney, and the tools we sell are the tools we run the company on.
This is an early, high-leverage role that will shape how Slate operates as we scale.
The role
This isn't an advisory role. You'll own problems end to end: scope them, build the solution, get it adopted, then move on to the next one.
Half the job is special projects. Recent examples of work this role would have owned:
- Building the pricing model behind a current business partnership
- Benchmarking 21 lenders' credit policies across 60+ levers, then turning it into a live reference the whole company uses
- Automating company wide reporting and the drafting of board minutes and investor updates so they take hours instead of days
The other half is making sure AI is actually pulling its weight across the business. You'll be finding where a workflow or an agent would save a team hours every week, building it, and getting it adopted.
You’ll go where the help is needed most. That means working across every team, earning trust quickly, and making good calls about what matters now versus what can wait.
What you’ll do
- Lead high-priority projects across strategy, commercial, operations and risk, from first question to finished outcome
- Find where AI can solve a real organisational problem, then build and roll out the solution yourself
- Work alongside leadership on decisions, planning and the questions that don't fit neatly in anyone else's job
- Bring structure and pace to every team you touch, and leave better ways of working behind you
- Hold competing priorities and keep leadership clear on the trade-offs
What we’re looking for
- 2–4 years at a top-tier strategy consulting firm (McKinsey, Bain, BCG) or an equally demanding environment: investment banking, a high-growth startup, or a business you ran yourself
- Exceptional problem-solving. You take something messy and ambiguous and turn it into a clear answer and a working solution
- Strong quantitative skills. You build your own models and make decisions with imperfect data
- Hands‑on with AI. You already run your own work through tools like Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor every day, and you've built something with them, not just used the chat window
- Fast without being careless, and comfortable moving between the big picture and the detail in the same hour
- You work well with people at every level and influence without authority
- High ownership. When something is yours, it gets done
- Lending or financial services experience is a plus, not a requirement. Curiosity is required.
- Direct access to leadership, with ownership of important outcomes from day one
- Serious breadth. You’ll get exposure to every part of the business
- A role built to grow as you do, with a path to senior leadership as Slate scales
- Learning budget & technology allowance
- Incredible office in Potts Point
- Team Offsite to Bali in December!
