Join the City of Boroondara as a motivated and technically skilled planning qualified in our Urban Planning team. About the role
As a Technical Planning Officer, you will provide technical support across a range of statutory planning functions, including the assessment of planning permit applications and amendments, provision of planning advice, and preparation of reports and correspondence.
Working closely with planners and a range of internal and external stakeholders, you will apply the Boroondara Planning Scheme and relevant legislation to support appropriate, site-responsive planning outcomes. You will also contribute to planning projects, process improvements and initiatives that improve the quality and effectiveness of planning services.

About you
You are interested in developing a career in planning and bring strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills. You may have a relevant qualification, be working towards one, or have relevant experience and transferable skills and the ability to develop your knowledge of planning legislation, policies and statutory processes.
You are comfortable interpreting information, considering different perspectives and working through planning issues to identify appropriate outcomes. You enjoy working collaboratively and building productive relationships with applicants, residents, colleagues and other stakeholders through a respectful and customer-focused approach.
You are organised, adaptable and able to manage competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail and delivering high-quality work.

Key responsibilities
You will provide technical planning advice and support across the Urban Planning team, including assessing and reporting on planning permit applications and amendments, preparing accurate reports and correspondence, and applying the Boroondara Planning Scheme, relevant legislation and Council policies to planning matters.
You will provide written and verbal planning advice regarding land use, development and subdivision, and work with applicants, developers, residents and other stakeholders to discuss planning matters and negotiate appropriate outcomes.
You will contribute to planning projects, process reviews and initiatives that improve the quality and effectiveness of planning services. You will maintain accurate planning records, liaise with internal teams and external stakeholders, and support Council’s planning decisions at VCAT for appropriate matters, with appropriate guidance and support.

Employment Requirements
A relevant qualification, or progress towards a qualification, in urban planning, town planning or a related discipline is desirable.
Experience in a planning, development or local government environment, including interpreting and applying planning legislation, policies and technical information is desirable; however, applicants with transferable skills and the ability to develop their planning knowledge are encouraged to apply.
Current Victoria Drivers Licence.
Applicants must have the right to work in Australia.
Preferred applicants will be required to undergo a National Police Record Check.
